(Jeffries Junction 15-Charlie-2, USS Octavia E Bulter)
The information they sought was highlighted as being present, but there were no corresponding files to then work from. No local storage and nothing flagged from the main computer core.
It was... odd.
Nilsen: =/\= Isolated to these events?…I wonder, strange but ::Beat:: What if…Jullian, who can delete transporter logs?=/\=
Paradi: =/\= Anybody with at least a Beta-One security clearance. Of course, as expected the higher the clearance the easier it would be to do. And hide. ::He paused, not really wanting to voice his next thought.:: Then there's the Intel crowd and their shadowy
antics....=/\=
Herrick: (nodding) =/\= You’re absolutely right... the Intelligence transport sequence works the same way, obfuscating the transport records so that the location is kept hidden from most officers. ::glancing at Paradi:: But I doubt they arrive upside down when
they arrive at the department. =/\=
Nilsen: =/\= So what if something interpreted that sequence? I=/\=
Paradi: =/\= If the sequence was interrupted there are dozens of possible outcomes. From arriving upside down to ::he paused again, feeling a little sick as he continued:: arriving inside out.... =/\=
Herrick: =/\= I suspect that they route the transporter all around the ship so that there isn’t any clear sign of where the signal is stopping on a consistent basis. For all I know, it’s winding its way through every day. =/\=
Nodding to himself, Julien banished the thoughts of inside-out arrivals.
Paradi: =/\= The pattern sequence isn't always run via the immediately active transporter pad. Sometime the computer utilises an inactive pad to buffer the signal and scrub it of anything untoward before rerouting it to the active pad. It's also means the computer
can dump the pattern at a different pad altogether should there be an unexpected security risk. The process is so quick though, you'd never notice any time delay. =/\=
Nilsen: =/\= Response =/\=
Herrick: =/\= So, if we entertain this assumption, what’s our next steps? =/\=
Nilsen: =/\= Unless those two officers are moonlighting as 007, we can assume that they’re not intending to use the intelligence protocols, so we gotta ask ourselves, is this a freak accident, or is someone attempting to use those protocols? =/\=
007? Wait, Julien understood that reference!
Paradi: =/\= It's either Intel being, well, Intel. Or... there's a leak.
Herrick: =/\= Response =/\=
Nilsen: =/\= If we’re certain it’s the intelligence protocols, we’ll have to involve Promontory. at some point, but I’d rather wait until we know for certain=/\=
Herrick: =/\= Response =/\=
Paradi: =/\= It still leaves us with a possible transporter problem. =/\=
Nilsen: =/\= Julian, if you feel that we need to take all the transporters down, you have my blessing, I’ll deal with the fallout =/\=
Feeling a prick of sweat appear on his brow, Julien swallowed before answering. He was about to utterly cripple transporter operations aboard a brand new ship, on the cusp of departing on a new mission.
This could go very wrong very quickly if he was off target with his judgment, no matter what protection he received from the Ops heirarchy.
Paradi: =/\= In my judgement, sirs. We ought to suspend all use of the transporter pads with immediate effect until we have a solid solution to what is going on... =/\=
Herrick/Nilsen: =/\= Response =/\=
He just hoped it wasn't him that would have to inform the captain. It wouldn't really make for a very good first meeting with her.
=/\= I'd rather stay hidden in the tubes if it's all the same to you, Lieutenant... =/\=
