((The Mines,  Somatrik Mountains, Cheyd’lang))

Maxwell: Best if we try tae explain what we're doing. Cannae imagine they'll feel safe with any kind ae weapon being pointed at them the now.

Arlill: The quicker we do this, the better.

Winters: I don’t really see any other way to do this quickly.

Maxwell: I say we do it.

The last thing Toxin wanted was to point weapons at these belittled people. However, their choices were limited. Their ship was ready to depart and they had been commanded to return. Toxin could only disregard orders for a limited time.

Arlill: ::to Winters:: Do it.

Winters: (nodding) Reprogramming the thrower now.

Maxwell: I've a thing tae do first.

Arlill: ::nodded his head towards Maxwell in the affirmative::

Maxwell: This will get you out of here, ok? It'll take you somewhere safe.

Maxwell: =/\= Lieutenant Maxwell tae the Butler. One tae beam up. =/\=

Maxwell: =/\= Energise. =/\=

It was a moment that Toxin would never forget. The human girl's presence and his disobedience to orders were both inexplicable. They were responses to the inhuman actions of an alien race that, just three days ago, had seemed welcoming and in need.

((Outside the Mines,  Somatrik Mountains, Cheyd’lang))

Toxin quietly observed his team, pausing to take notes. Max sat on a medical crate, wiping his eyes with his forearm. Michele watched as the last of the prisoners were brought out of the mines for processing and treatment. Toxin then noted the remaining prisoners being transported away in shuttles. His gaze returned to his team. Despite the likely reprimands for somewhat disobeying orders, the three of them stood together.

Winters: (stepping up next to Max and handing out a water pack) Another one bites our dust…..mission that is. (smiling)

Max took the water.

Arlill: But at what cost ::looking out at the crowd again::.

Toxin didn't want to dampen the prevailing mood, but he was troubled by an unsettling feeling that he hadn't experienced since the Anchorage mission: fear and loathing of what was to come. He hadn't shared this with anyone, but he had contemplated resigning his commission and returning to Earth. The previous mission had nearly drained him, and this mission was having a similar effect.

Maxwell: No bad for a days work, aye?

Winters: Not bad at all gents.

Arlill: Shall we retire?

[End of Scene for Toxin, planet side]

(( Chief’s Office, Operations Center, USS Octavia E Butler ))

Arlill: Computer, activate SKIF mode.

The room dimmed slightly, taking on a bluish-gray hue. The window turned opaque, the door locked audibly, and a faint sheen of a forcefield became visible just millimeters from its surface. A gentle tone confirmed that SKIF mode was active, ensuring he wouldn't be interrupted. His comm badge emitted a low chirp, indicating a loss of signal from the comms system. Without incoming or outgoing signals, any hidden listening devices (though unlikely) would be rendered useless. He was truly alone. Even the computer had orders to keep the SKIF active no matter the authorization it received.

As he leaned back in his chair, images of the slaves flashed through his mind. He found himself transported back to the anchorage just before the explosion. His chest tightened, and his thoughts whirled, making it hard to focus on a single thought. But he had one task to complete.

Chief’s Log, Star Date 240105.12

Our mission to Chey…

He felt an overwhelming feeling, a fuzziness and his vision began to grow dark, the room began to spin, he stood up…

Arlill: =/\= Toxin to Lhan…=/\= ::he passed out::

Computer: =/\= Unable to comply in SKI…=/\=

Computer: oO *My protocols require me to follow my orders, adhere to all sanctioned activities per those orders. The room is in SKIF mode. Assessing Vitals….. 89% likelihood of permanent damage without immediate medical attention. ***Likely candidate to violate SKIF mode and provide access to…. Lieutenant Nilsen… Location: Operation Center, confirmed…

(( Operations Center, USS Octavia E Butler ))

There stood only one human in the Operations Center, a tall gent.

Computer: =/\= Lieutenant Nilsen, I require authorization to violate a general SKIF order. =/\=

Nilsen: =/\= Authorization Approved. =/\=

Computer: =/\= Lieutenant Arlill may be experiencing a medical emergency. =/\=

A flash of light blue light indicated the door’s force field was removed, the door to the chief’s office then opened.

Computer: =/\= I’ve already alerted Medical. =/\=

[END ACT III – Lieutenant Toxin Arlill]

((ooc: I plan to release a medical one-man scene this week, a reflection on what had happened.))
