(( Operations Center, Lower Level, Deck 7, Octavia E. Butler. ))

As they all pondered various ideas on how to punch a whole in the fabric of space and time, Kimonzi did have to bring up the most obvious thing.

Whether or not they would survive the darn experience.

Lahl: I do wonder if the deflector would be able to handle the power necessary to do that?

Arlill: The upgraded deflector dish should be able handle increased loads, but there’s always the possibility of overloading it and limping back to Starbase 14 when we return.

Forsyth: What about a subspace tensor matrix? Something similar was used by a Doctor, Lenara Kahn, to create an artificial wormhole using magneton particles?

oO Well, that is interesting. Alex needs to be more open about her ideas. Those are some good ones. Oo

Nis: It has potential.

Arlill: Agreed.

Lahl: Definitely. Good job Lieutenant Forsyth.

Kimonzi and Alex may be dating, but she figured while on a mission together they should keep things professional. However, Alex was doing a good job with her ideas.

Forsyth: It works for a short time. The shields of a probe interacted with the tetryon field and caused it to become unstable, producing a massive graviton shock wave.

Nis: Will that… blow us all up?

Arlill: ::looking at Jania:: Well we can’t guarantee it won’t, but so might any of the options we’ve suggestion so far.

Lahl: And so far, it seems to be the one with the least amount of risk of blowing us up.

She scratched her spots again, a bad habit she had apparently picked up when she received her symbiont, as she thought about how best to implement Alex’s idea. As she did so, Alex continued explaining how they could make it work better.

Forsyth: If we could work out the shield's harmonic to work with the tetryon field, then we might be able to use it.

Arlill: Yes! If we could match the harmonics, we might be able to absorb any excess energy rather than have it destroy us. But that’s a big “if”.

Lahl: At this point, I’m not sure if I have a better idea.

Nis: We also need to consider--there’s a planet right next to us. How can we do this without sucking them into a wormhole?

Arlill: A valid point. (beat) ::caressing his beard:: We would need to control the aperture and limit it to what we need to pass through and no bigger. Of course, that would also require some expert piloting to avoid contact with the edge of the event horizon where the gravimetric forces would be greatest. (beat) It would tare us apart otherwise.

Lahl: True, true, but, we do have some great pilots here though. We even have a second Lhandon.

At least, she did think they had another Lhandon. A phaser set for stun didn’t usually kill someone, even during transport.

Forsyth: Response

Nis: There’s really another Lhandon on the ship?

Arlill: Yeah (beat) And I thought one was eno… ::stopping abruptly::

Well, someone had opinions on the appropriate amount of Lhandons.

Lahl: Oh?

Lahl raised an eyebrow as Toxin stopped himself.

Forsyth: Response

Nis: Does he remember anything about being captured? If this is some sort of regular thing these ‘collectors’ do, there must already be some sort of tech that allows them to open the wormhole.

Arlill: Unfortunately I think Alt Miash would know more about this, but she hasn’t woken up yet.

Lahl: I know the alternate Lhandon was stunned. Has he even woken up yet?

Forsyth: Response

Nis: :: whispering :: So this second Lhandon … is he single?

Lahl chuckled to herself, and leaned over to inform Nis that this Lhandon was unfortunately quite taken, but Commander Toxin jumped in before she could.

Arlill: I heard he’s married I think. (beat) Sorry, didn’t mean to ease drop.

Forsyth: Response

Before they could get too of track, the commander brought them back to the reality of their situation. And this time he had another wrinkle in their grand plan to bring everyone back to where they were supposed to be.

Arlill: If we do pull this off, it’s going to take our best pilot at the helm.

Lahl: I mean, you’re right here sir.

Nis/Forsyth: Response

Arlill: ::laughing out loud:: No, while I’d love to hold the title of best pilot on board, I think our Nilsen might be the best option.

She had been intending to give him a compliment, but he was probably right about that. Kimonzi had been meaning to ask their Nilsen for flying lessons, but they were both always so busy, even on shore leave.

Lahl: Well, hopefully he’s up to the challenge. Or the both of you working together. I’m not sure how piloting a ship this size works.

Nis/Forsyth: Response

Arlill: We’ll need to build a model to test our theory before we put this into practice. ::looking at Alex and Lahl:: what do we need to build the test?

Oh, now she was being put on the spot. Lahl scratched her spots as she thought, apparently this whole rigamarole was giving her anxiety.

Lahl: We’ll need a testing environment in the computer, simulation data from the Lenara Kahn experiments, and data from the Deep Space 9 Mirror Universe incidents. What else do you think Forsyth?

Nis/Forsyth: Response

Those were great points. They would also need the data for the shield harmonics to make sure that they didn’t blow themselves up on the way out.

Lahl: Right, right. And we need to figure out how big the wormhole we’re creating is so that we don’t destroy an entire planet.

Forsyth/Nis/Arlill: Response

By the Caves. The more and more they talked about this, the more and more items they were needing. At this rate, they were going to be getting done when Lahl needed a new host.

Lahl: Well, at some point we do need to begin working. Should we maybe start preparing what we can while we continue brainstorming?

Forsyth/Nis/Arlill: Response

Kimonzi nodded, stepping to the Engineering Console and typing away.

Lahl: I’ll get started on making the simulation environment. Who here has the highest security clearance for accessing the data we need? Commander Herrick told me not to hack into databases beyond my security clearance.

Forsyth/Nis/Arlill: Response
