Fer’at did not know enough about the strange leaves taken from
Cheyd’lang to have any theories as to how they worked, but he was
interested in finding out more about them.  He had not expected to
participate in field study, but found himself heavily involved when both
Yinn and Loq began to act odd, then proclaimed that the two were quite
literally of one mind.
A side effect of the conjoining of the two resulted in a clumsy and
graceless attempt to wrangle their bodies into practical motion.  The
result might have amused most, elicited sympathy from others, but all
Fer’at offered was a helping hand.

Fer’at: Lieutenant Brzezinski, if you can assist Ensign Yinn, I will
assist Ensign Loq.  The shuttle can not land right here, but we will
need to meet them just outside the town.

With a nod, Brzezkinski positioned herself in a manner that would both
support Yinn as well as allow her a semblance of pride, though such an
emotion was not logical and certainly not something he was guilty of.

Brzezinski: Up you go. That’s it, one foot in front of the other.

Loq: It's funny, I can still tell left and right, but I keep mixing up
which left leg is which.

As the two engaged in a literal battle of minds, the duo found an
accord, and soon they were able to work in conjunction, synchronising
their motions so that each side of a person moved the same time as the
other.

Brzezinski: Anything we can do to make a hole in this crowd?

Before Fer’at could offer a logical option, Loq, or perhaps Yinn, or
maybe even both, used Loq’s mouth to bellow to the crowd.

Loq: CLEAR A PATH. INJURED PERSONNEL. CLEAR A PATH TO THE SHUTTLE.

No one wanted to deal with a Klingon, especially when it was difficult
to tell whether he was angry or simply being a Klingon. Without protest,
people quickly moved to the side and created a path which allowed the
quartet to aim directly for the now parked shuttle.

Fer'at: I suppose that is an effective method.

Brzezinski: Thank you, that should do!

Now that the path was clear, they made much better progress. Between
Brzezinski and Fer’at, they angled down to the field where the shuttle
sat, waiting for them.

Fer'at: You are doing well.  There is not far to go.

As they approached the small vessel, Brzezinski offered an unhelpful
comment.

Brzezinski: (reading the side of the shuttle) Imago. Huh. Looks fast, at
least.

Loq: I'll drive!

Fer’at craned his neck to look at the man which he half carried toward
the shuttle and arched an eyebrow.

 Yinn: Kidding! I'm kidding.

Brzezinski: responses

Fer’at: Perhaps it it would be best to refrain from such lighthearted
commentary.

Crossing the rest of the distance, the small group arrived at the
shuttle, then climbed inside, easing the two bodies of the joined pair.
By that point, Fer’at noticed a discernible difference between how they
functioned.  Perhaps the time spent waiting on the shuttle and
subsequent trek there did allow them to acclimate to their new state of
being.

Yinn: Okay. Let me stress again, that before we talk about separation,
let's try and understand what's happening, and work out a method of
separation that doesn't kill me. Having your brain quantum disentangled
is not a death that gets you welcomed to Suto'vo'kor.

Fer’at: We will proceed with the utmost caution, for it would be
detrimental to lose valuable officers.

Preservation of life was the utmost goal in the endeavour, Preferably,
the preservation of that life would result in the separation of the two
individuals back into their own bodies. If that was impossible, then the
two would have to adapt.  He would endeavour to focus on the more
favourable outcome.

Brzezinski: responses

Yinn: We understand quantum entanglement to be a natural state, and a
permanent one. It's not something that generally gets turned on and off.
I think we must try and understand how it got turned on before we can
understand how to turn it off.

Fer’at: Agreed.  We should not press forward without ensuring the safety
of both persons entangled, and to do so without understanding in detail
the nature of this condition would be foolish.

That was, after all, part of ensuring the preservation of life.
Ignorance would result in chaos and could only harm the victims. Fer’at
was not inclined to proceed recklessly.

Brzezinski: Response

The pilot turned and called for everyone to secure themselves, and once
the officers were seated, proceeded to ease the shuttle into the air.
Soon, they arched up into the atmosphere.  The brilliant day stretched
out before them, the colours of the festival melting into the greenery
of New Bajor, and that joined by the blues of the seas and oceans that
watered the green.  Fer’at admired the planet which was such a sharp
contrast to the one upon which he was born, but his view was brief as
the turn toward the ship that was now their home dragged it out of sight.

Once they passed into space proper, the scenery switched to one that
dominated their days and night as officers aboard a ship.  A thick,
ebony blanket pockmarked with a thousand silver pinpoints greeted them,
some stars, their smouldering celestial bodies searing through the
darkness, others planets dressed in the radiance cast by their host
stars. Eventually, the Octavia E Butler dominated their view, and soon
swallowed them whole.  As the shuttle docked, Fer’at studied the
affected pair.

Fer’at: Perhaps it would be best to request gurneys to assist both of
you to the lab.

Brzezinkski/Loq/Yinn: Response

Fer’at: Yes, but we did not have to walk far.  I am strong enough to
assist without concern, but would you be able to do so, Brzezinski?

Humans didn’t have the same strength as a Vulcan.  Should the distance
prove too much and she wound up allowing Yinn’s body to fall, then the
Andorian could sustain physical injury, which would only complicate the
situation further.  As it was, she would need to help the Andorian off
the shuttle and into the bay in order to get her on a gurney.

Brzezinkski/Loq/Yinn: Response

Fer’at: As you wish.

The Vulcan scientist inclined his head, then rose from his seat. The
sooner they looked into the cause of the matter, the sooner they would
find a solution to the problem.

Brzezinkski/Loq/Yinn: Response
