((Treasure room, Archeologist “Base Camp”, Surface, Marohu III))
Ensign JoNz had to admit, the detective work of archeology was starting to gain her interest and respect. And to discover a statue - an artifact - that could project past memories or the actual moment to another person was pretty heady stuff.
JoNz: I might understand what the Commander is getting at; I was almost dizzy and then smelled flowers for a brief moment.
Riley: I understood the words he used, but not in the context of the sentence he used them in.
Forsyth: Take a deep breath, like this. :: Taking a deep breath, then let it out :: and start from the beginning, sir.
The Ensign took the advice to heart as well; her ‘nosey’ experience had been jarring. Maybe not as jarring as mercenaries drawing down on the group, but jarring nonetheless.
Enak: And don’t leave anything out.
Arlill: Response
JoNz: It was as if I was right there in a field of flowers, yet I was taking in the smell and not so much being in the field if that makes any sense?
The Cait was trying to convey what she had smelled. It was a jolt to suddenly smell flowers in the middle of a dank, dusty archeological dig, located several meters underground no less.
Riley: I might have a theory. Are we welcome to advance them?
Enak: I’m all ears.
Arlill / Forsyth: Response
JoNz: I’d be interested in that theory.
Riley: Out of body experience caused by something within the statue?
Enak: Well, that certainly sounds like a good idea.
That was…trippy. To utilize that sort of technology so many thousands of years ago was pretty impressive.
Arlill / Forsyth: Response
JoNz: What if it’s some sort of transporter…but that makes no sense as I didn’t go anywhere, and neither did the Commander. Or did we?
Enak: As far as I’m aware, you both were here.
Arlill / Forsyth: Response
JoNz: Unless we’re both having an existential crisis? I know what I smelled though.
Having a personal crisis was not on the gray-furred Caits schedule, thank you very much. Maybe later, but not today.
Enak: I don’t doubt that.
Arlill / Riley / Forsyth: Response
Enak: I think we need to consider that there was something that happened, but not necessarily physically.
Arlill / Riley / Forsyth: Response
Several of the junior diggers were cataloging the newest statue, taking readings via tricorders or sketching out pictures in the archaic leather journals.
JoNz: First contact? What if they’re right and we did just experience first contact with the I-Kiyo through…through this statue?
Arlill / Riley / Forsyth: Response
Enak: Well, that would be interesting if the statue caused time travel.
JoNz was generally familiar with the few instances of objects that would cause time travel, such as the structure located on Dannus Five.
Enak: Because, correct me if I’m wrong, but the I-Kiyo are already known to the Federation, now?
The statement was meant to quell any false information from spreading, as the I-Kiyo were currently known among the Federation worlds.
Arlill / Riley / Forsyth: Response
JoNz: That's my bad, I jumped the gun as the Humans say and got excited; you're right ::to Enak:: that the ‘Kiyo are already known to the Federation.
Enak: Is it possible that you were looking at some memories of some of the people that were here first?
Arlill / Riley / Forsyth: Response
JoNz: …and I likely picked up the smell ::points to nose:: as this can be overly sensitive.
JoNz began conferring quietly with several of the junior archeologists, as ideas and conjecture bounced back and forth. She found herself enjoying their enthusiasm.
Enak: Well, just thinking, as it’s possible that you did see something, and that something was the past and the memories of those here. That would be really cool to have data on. Almost tempted to touch the statue myself.
Arlill / Riley / Forsyth: Response
JoNz: ::looks up from conversation:: Oh, that's not a good idea.
Arlill / Riley / Forsyth / Enak: Response
The friend that JoNz had made passed along a leather bound sketch book to the Caitian; JoNz spoke in a low tone so as not to disturb the main conversation, thanking the woman for the item.
Kansz took a moment to appreciate the craftsmanship, the leather and the thickness of the deckle edge paper. It was a contrast to the technology-minded world they lived in.
Speaking of technology…
JoNz: ::flips an ear back:: Could this statue function as a transmitter node of a Holodeck set-up?
Arlill / Riley / Forsyth / Enak: Response
JoNz: If this thing does transmit memories as well, are we seeing recordings or live moments in these people's history?
Arlill / Riley / Forsyth / Enak: Response
