((8 Forward, The Writer’s Room, U.S.S. Octavia E. Butler))

In the Writer’s room, Nesre had the opportunity to mix and mingle with others.  It just so happened the other on that particular day was a Trill officer, one who was joined, which meant she held a host of memories within that weren’t necessarily her own.  Smiling, Nesre sipped at her drink and considered the woman.  The blue collar indicated the sciences, but she didn’t know what branch specifically, just that it wasn’t in Counselling.

Salo: So tell me about Kimonzi.  What sort of things do you enjoy?

The question came as a surprise and the counsellor wondered if it was a question she didn’t get often.  To her, that was rather sad, for while the symbiote was a person, so was Kimonzi.  She waited as the science officer took a moment to think about the question.

Lahl: Well, I enjoy holodeck novels set in the “Regency Era” in England on Earth. Learned that from an ex girlfriend at the Academy. ::a fond look crossed her face:: I always like getting time on the Parrises Squares grid.

It took a minute for Nesre to remember what the Regency Era was, but then she realised that it was an ancient period in Earth history.  She found it rather amusing at how much Human culture pervaded others - including her own, thanks to spending the years after her rescue on Earth before she went to the Academy.

Salo: That sounds quite interesting.  Are there other things you like?

Lahl: I’m also really fond of spending time on the beach in the sun, both on real planets and on the Holodeck.

While Nesre didn’t share the previous interests, this one she had to agree was a fine way to spend some time.  She had been born and raised in a warm part of Orion, so she, too, preferred that sort of environment as well.

Lahl: What about you? What do you like to do Nesre?

Salo: Like you, I prefer warmer climates, and I love beaches.

Pausing a moment, she admitted to the passion that she’d had for most of her life.  Although the dance she’d been taught as a young child had been for certain entertainment purposes which was not particularly welcome, she had nonetheless enjoyed the actual choreographed motions and expressing herself through movement.  After going to Earth, she had explored it even further.

Salo: I enjoy dancing.  I’ve been doing it since I was a child.

Lahl: Oh really? You know, two lives ago I was a famous dancer back on Trill. She was a lot of fun. ::smiling at the memories of Kehda::

Salo: It is a lot of fun.

Nesre agreed, smiling.  There they had another thing in common.

Salo: Does Kimonzi dance?

Lahl: Response

Nesre could not and would not ignore Lahl, but neither would she ignore Kimonzi.  She understood that the relationship between host and symbiote was intimate and complicated, but each was their own person and yet neither was whole without the other.

Salo: There are many activities to explore, and it’s never too late to pick up something that used to be done…or something new you wish to do .

Lahl: Response

Salo: Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to learn a skill that’s not commonly taught now, such as sewing.

Lahl: Response

Nodding slowly, Nesre finished off her drink, but made no move to leave, for she enjoyed the conversation.  Engaging with others on the ship and getting to know them better was always a pleasant activity.

Salo: Have you ever explored any other types of artistic pursuits?

Lahl: Response
