((Sickbay, Deck 5, USS Octavia E Butler))
The sickbay had grown quieter after they delivered the last of their rescued slaves to New Bajor. Miash had found herself somewhat bored. Not that she minded - the previous few days had been exhausting, and a bout of boredom was a welcome respite.
Miash: What can I do for you dear? Are you injured ensign?
Loq stiffened.
Loq: If I were injured, I would heal in my own time. But I seem to be ill. If I have something contagious, I do not wish to spread it to the rest of the crew. And if I have been poisoned—
Miash: Now hold on dear, who would have tried to poison you?
She guided the bulky Klingon to a biobed. Despite his reluctance, the physically persuasive Ferengi managed to convince him.
Loq: As unlikely as it seems, I was with a young woman last night. She plied me with many kinds of liquor, and I awoke feeling like my stomachs were at war with each other.
Miash: It seems like you might have had too many drinks, my friend.
Loq: Klingons do not have “too much to drink.” It is humans who are sickened by alcohol, although that rarely stops them from consuming it. This is something else. I wish for you to discover what it is.
Miash: Ok ensign, lean back.
The ensign seemed reluctant to lie down on the biobed. The nurse found this understandable, having worked with Klingons enough times. She would rather work on the inside of a Bolian without gloves than attempt any type of bedside manner with a Klingon.
Loq: Response
Miash: We can’t get an accurate scan unless you’re still (beat) ::putting on her mom voice:: Now lay back, that’s an order.
The Klingon showed, only for a second, a bit of fear at the sternness of the head nurse and complied.
Loq: Response
The question made senses. Klingons are known for their resistance to viruses, bugs, and parasites. This resistance likely stems from their default diet, which is largely raw, thereby building up their immunity.
Miash: It’s unlikely, the Klingon stomach is rather resistant to…. ::taking pause as the images appeared on the screen::
Miash had been studying her xenobiology books for months to prepare for her medical school entrance exams. She found that Klingons took up almost a quarter of the book. While they initially seemed like a simple species, their systems were quite redundant and complex.
Making eye contact with the ensign she reached for her comms badge.
Miash: =/\= Miash to any medical doctors, please report to sickbay for a medical emergency. =/\=
Loq: Response
Miash knew she couldn’t sugar coat anything with a Klingon, but she also knew how resistant they are to the “weaker” emotions and could handle bad news often better than good news.
Miash: From what I can tell, you anterior stomach no longer has any lining. (beat) ::reviewing the screen further:: I can try something, but you’ll need to be ok being restrained…
Loq: Response
