((Private Quarters, Deck 12, USS Astraeus))
Caras: I don’t know. If it is a plant, maybe they’ll name it after you. No! wait! you can’t have that, because then people will want to know how you found it, and you’ll have to tell this story. No one else bought anything, They all were just happy to feel like they were breaking or bending the rules. I’ve never seen anything quite like this.
Ensign Caras was practically yelling in his quarters. He lived alone, but that wasn’t a reason to keep it down. Most of the ones that had went with him were junior officers. Morro had been to so many shady markets in the past and one of them really wanted to go. Morro really wanted them to like him so he took them, then he was the only one that ended up buying anything. The rest of them were too scared, or just not willing to risk it. Morro however was the one that paid the price for it.
Saa: Morro,
hold on, its very doubtful this is an undiscovered species, and even if
it was, theres likely cousins species that exist, plant or not, that
can be used as a reference for treatment. ::She looked at him with some
sympathy:: Can you please get the data?
Tasen: Sevantha
is right. More than likely it is a species that has been researched and
the information got out of what it could do, just without the
byproducts or they did not care of what came from the use. It’ll be
okay, we’ll do our best. oO Or would you have to send a ‘go check on
this man please’ message to the doctor on that ship if we fail at this?
Oo ::Gwen chances a glance at her roommate::
Caras: Ok the scan is running. I’m pulling out the medkit that I have in here ::holding up the content of the medkit to the viewer:: Does this have everything I’ll need?
Saa: Yes, there should be a small rather retro looking medical tricorder in there. Besides the analysis of the cream, I need you to also scan yourself with it and send us the readings. ::She moves to begin inputting a code:: I’m sending you my Starfleet Serial Number, forward the data to me and I’ll forward it to Gwen here…
Gwen was realizing as she sat there listening that she wasn’t shocked a random man called them with a plant growing from his butt end of his spine. At this point, with just being in starfleet as an officer for a few months, she was already getting used to the fact crazy things popped out of every corner out of nowhere. Even when three lower deckers were on a call, trying to help one and keep him from needing to embarrass himself in front of his ship's medical department..
Caras: Alright let me pull up my terminal. ::moving the imager:: and almost done ::setting up the analyzer::
Morro had moved the imager back so that they could see a wider view of his room, he seemingly kept it very clean, but it was almost barren. He had a few of what appeared to be Orion trinkets on a shelf, but other than that almost no personalization. Stock star fleet furniture with the exception of the bedsheets that were a strange looking black silken material. He had pulled out a few engineering and scientific instruments from under the desk and had set up the material analyzer, and the medical tricorder to prepare to send the data to the two officers.
Saa: Okay, ready? SN-709-220
Patiently she waited now, she didn’t want to watch him too closely but she also had to make sure he was properly taking the scan. It took everything in her to not immediately want to correct or tell him to adjust but she restrained herself until she noticed an error that would affect the results.
He had queued up his station to take her serial as she said it. Morro placed the tube of the material in the analyzer and hit the scan button and began scanning himself with the medical tricorder.
Saa: Make sure its a full sweep ::she’d speak up:: You’re going to want to hold it a little closer to your skin and the veins.
Tasen: Also please get a good scan of the base of the ::pauses and purses her lips, trying to remain looking calmly professional::...uh veins. We’ll need to see the difference in the base versus the tendrils..
Caras: ok I’m trying, I really don’t want to come in contact with it, it’s painful and itchy.
Morrow showed impressive flexibility when getting the scan, able to have full articulation of his hands behind his back and bending his position in order to get a full scan. The veiny… thing, pulsed a little bit. Morro had to resist the urge to scratch it but he eventually finished the scan.
Saa: Don’t touch it, you’ll irritate it.
Tasen: Depending upon what it is, irritating it could be…something we don’t want to learn before we get data.
Caras: Ok all of the data has been collected. I hope.::looking over the data:: I don’t know what any of this means.
The data came in on the screen, both Morro’s medical data and the analysis from the tube of cream that he had used on himself from the night market.
Saa: Hmm ::she sat back on her feet looking at the records:: Definitely interacting with the nervous system, there must some sort of agent dispersing causing the itching and pain each time you touch it. A defense mechanism.
Tasen: Hmm…::mumbling
as she read:: so it’s definitely a parasitic relationship…Helminths
parasite…but using the lower spine as the base instead of the
intestines. Odd. But also similar to an Ectoparasite too. Huh.
Gwen’s brain had been going along the route of trying to remember how much nutrients a parasite could get from a spinal connection to an Orion. Sure she was a biologist but at least this part would have been much closer to Sevan’s area of expertise. Though the data she was reading definitely showed that this…whatever it was was causing some unique issues for…
Caras: I’m no biologist but that is bad right? ::voice cracking a bit:: How bad is it?
Morro was trying not to be dramatic. Reputation and what the senior staff thought of him was everything.
The Ba’ku woman sent a look that easily said ‘oops’ before her gaze returned to the data, making sure to not talk her way through them. She hadn’t meant to worry the guy who had put an unknown cream on.
Sevan’s eyes lingered on the data, then flicked up to him, as she heard the crack in his voice.
Saa: It
isn’t optimal, Morro.::She stared at the data: …From what I can tell
from this, the activation of your sympathetic nervous system is a
temporary effect, an immediate response to it’s attempt to activate and
manipulate the parasympathetic nervous system….
She was speaking directly to Tasen as she explained this small bit.
Saa: That
chemical there, that can cause delayed nerve response can’t it? ::She
remarked before looking over Tasen’s shoulder regarding the cream’s
data::
Gwen actively was looking at what Sevan had been referencing, a small frown hitting her features before it deepend, seeing what she was seeing.
Tasen: ::studying
the data before speaking:: Yes. We had a chemical that actually
affected some animals in a Zoology study during Academy. It ended up
completely paralyzing the creature after a few hours. ::realizing that
must sound terrifying so she tried to fix it:: But…note that was a much
smaller creature than a grown Orion male.
Caras: Ah no.nononon. Paralysis? delayed nerve response? I can’t have it take dance away from me. I’ll die. Please tell me there is a way I can …coax it out from under my skin? ::shivering a little:: or whatever it is or however I need to do it.
He had changed his mind. If these two couldn’t fix it then he’d HAVE to go to sickbay and possibly face reprimand on his stellar
record. He had broken the rules a lot in the academy, but it was always
little things and he was careful never to get caught. It was almost
always for a good reason, or at least to get someone to like him, which
was a good enough reason for one Morro Caras. He could not have this
thing affect his ability to dance though. It wasn’t worth it. Would he
really have to choose between the things he loved the most? His sister
Z’Mat was right, StarFleet was smart, it was only a matter of time until
they discovered what kind of person he really was. A selfish Orion. His
thoughts were spiraling that he wasn’t really listening when the women
on the other side of the call spoke next.
The spiraling was evident to Sevantha when she finally looked away from the records to watching him.
Saa: Morro,
I need you to listen to me and my voice, working yourself up is only
going to speed up the process of it activating your parasympathetic
nervous system
Tasen: Sevan’s correct, you shouldn’t sit there and dwell, maybe do something around your room while we work through this?
Saa: You need to keep active, I know it uncomfortable, but keep moving. Try doing some sort of exercise while we work.
Caras: uh alright. I can do that ::beginning to stretch:: there
Looking between the data present, she frowned trying to consider the next step of treatment.
Tasen: So
we know its affects on him…looking at it though. Do you see this here?
::Gwen shifted and showed her PADD to Sevan:: Here just a bit past the
base, that looks like a respiratory system, a small one but still a
respiratory system. It’s breathing….from here and here ::moving to point
again:: and here.
Saa: It… breathes through its appendages? Doesn’t that mean it could suffocate?
Caras: I don’t think it likes me moving a ton.
He continued to pull off a series of impressive stretches. Continuing to amp up his status of dumb eye candy. If someone had walked in on the two junior female officers during this, they might have immediately walked out. Lucky for them they did not have a third roommate.
Tasen: Well sort of…
Gwen opened her mouth as if she was going to continue talking before pausing, closing her mouth and pursing her lips as she stared at the data. Red brows furrowed as she studied it, wondering just how they could do it without harming Sevan’s emerald friend with benefits or the parasite that had joined him.
Caras: Suffocate it!? Like with a pillow? In a cryo unit?
Morro detested violence. The act of smothering something to death shook him to his core. This was about his health, he just wasn’t sure if he had the resolve to take something out like that. Sure he had been shot at, and he had been in fights, but he couldn’t recall actually taking a life. Z’Mat had always stepped in when things got too violent.
