(( Commander Katsim’s Quarters, USS OE Butler ))
Deep in thought, Anton considered their possibilities, although there weren’t very many available to them. He wondered if potentially someone could have broken into the quarters, undetected by both security, himself at the moment, and by the occupants. He also wondered if there was some potential that maybe the participant that they hadn’t spoken to yet had insights that would change their perspective entirely, but Anton didn’t know where Wes was at the moment, and surely Peri had spoken to him about it.
Peters: Nothing wrong with it internally.
It brought back Anton’s original thought once again, maybe someone had accessed the replicator remotely somehow, in order to…
Richards: For what purpose?
Katsim: Purpose?
Anton turned and looked towards Peri, he had been seemingly thinking aloud. He shook his head and with that shaking himself back into the present at the same time.
Peters: Any chance of a misfire caused by whatever artificial intelligence you tangled with on the last mission?
Katsim: The Continuance?
This brought Anton back to his original internal / external thought.
Richards: I mean, I guess it’s possible, it’s kind of difficult to predict what the AI could have done, but… for what purpose?
That question was also difficult to predict, sometimes the AI operated on seemingly unrelated variables that combined perfectly in a way that could only be understood by itself.
Peters continued to share more of his idea.
Peters: I read through some of the AARs — it assumed the voice of the ship’s computer. If it retained access pathways, it’s at least worth ruling out.
Peters tapped at the PADD that contained the logs.
Peters: Do these timestamps roughly align with your time off-ship during the away mission?
Katsim: No. But they align with times Wes and I were both out of our quarters. Echo as well.
Richards: Well at least we can rule out Greaves.
Peters: Response
Katsim: The Continuance did access the holodecks.
Anton looked towards Peri and nodded.
Richards: And the replicators, but from what I saw it was always straight forward action, not obfuscation, even when it didn’t make a lot of sense.
Peters: Response
Katsim: Could it be digital ghosts?
Did she mean, remnants of the AI that hadn’t evacuated fully or successfully. Or did she mean… “Ghosts”
Richards: Ghosts?
Peters: Response
Anton paused for a moment, considered the possibilities.
Richards: I suppose it wouldn’t be the weirdest thing we’ve encountered out here.
Ghosts among others, making the list.
Peters/Katsim: Response
Richards: So what are we going to do?
Peters/Katsim: Response
Richards: We’ll have to run scans, lots of scans. To see if there are any other incidents of this happening anywhere else.
Anton reached for his combadge, but just before tapping it, he decided that instead of trying to explain his orders to his underlings in security, he would relay the instructions via terminal instead. It was just easier that way.
Peters/Katsim: Response
