(( Hydroponics, Deck 10 Saucer, USS Octavia E. Butler ))
Aine had learned to switch off at times. It had taken her a couple of years and old habits die hard. With this new responsibility she seemingly jumped right in. She imagined most officers would first want to celebrate, but there would be time for that later. Starships were living things and the senior officers were vital organs that kept the blood pumping. Between junior officers running amuck and interdepartmental rivalries (we all know how those Engineers can be), someone had to be responsible. *
Sherlock: Are there any pressing matters we need to look into before we arrive at DS14?
Rouiancet: (shaking her head) I don't think so. I should prepare more official briefs for both of you, though, and update your clearances and so forth. Iljor might have some tips, too, if you'd like to ask him.
Promontory: I assume Starfleet has training manuals for us.
Sherlock: That should be easy enough.
But of course there was. Starfleet documented everything. Starfleet had procedures for everything. Even how to properly don your boots...they slipped on.
Rouiancet: I hope so. (beat) Thank you, both and truly, for agreeing to do this. You know I'm new to this (gesturing around vaguely at the entire ship) myself, but knowing I have you at my back makes it easier.
Promontory: Absolutely. We’ll figure this out. (beat) And I think I’ll try to get a few minutes with Commander Etan before he leaves us. Is there anything else you want us to do in the short-term?
Lia wasn't the only one in the room that was new...evident by the fact she'd just upgraded them both in their duties. But like Aine had seen and been a part of so much in her career, change happened. And it was the resilience and adaptability of the typical Starfleet officer that always saw them through. All capable people that could apply themselves.
Sherlock: ::expanding on Promontory's question:: Anything we can help you with?
Rouiancet: Well, that is a good question. (beat, then a laugh) There will certainly come a time in the near future where I punt all my questions to one of you two.
Sherlock: Well, we may not have the right answers all the time, but we'll give it our best.
Aine smiled and tried not to laugh. Captain's were mighty figures in the fleet, from day one that's what they were led to believe. In time she saw them more and more as just people with a heft of responsibilities. That the best Captain's she'd known were those who built good crews. It was a two way street.
Promontory: So, in the immediate present… any pressing matters we need to be aware of?
Rouiancet: Responses
And then there was the other side of things—the things that you’d rather not know.
Promontory: OK. (beat) OK… We’ll be sure to be sensitive to that.
Rouiancet: Responses
Aine noticed Avander seemingly get distracted by one of the many plants in the lab.
Sherlock: Well, Captain, thank you for your confidence in us.
She gave Avander a slight nudge with her elbow.
Promontory: response
Rouiancet: response
Sherlock: Anytime I was given a promotion or more responsibility, I've promised to do my best. Maybe ::beat:: just as much for myself as them. And I make the same promise to you, Captain.
Rouiancet/Promontory: response
