OOC: Enjoyed this scene but wrapping it up since we're in mission land ;)
((Secondary engineering storage room 002∆ , Deck 11, USS Octavia E. Butler))
The informal party was off to a great start, Una was proving to be quite the thoughtful host with making sure that everyone was taken care of and served as an interesting juxtaposition with the last JOPA gathering Eli had attended. Here, there was no gimmick, costumes or facsimile of time gone by, just finger foods and casual conversation. Each had their merit, and he was finding this one as equally entertaining.
He found himself in a casual chat making small talk, and Una hadn’t (yet) made any awkward advances. He mentally ticked a mark in the ‘wins’ column. He was sure she’d find a more… suitable suitor in the future. He’d just wiped off the ‘moustache’ from his root beer float that someone had called out and, with reddened cheeks, tried to move the conversation forward.
Kovacs: Thanks. So any interesting developments since we last met up?
Yinn: I've been busy around the clock, between studying what happened to me ::indicating their other body:: visiting the Dyson ring, and my new lieutenant duties ::gently bushing a hand across the new pip on their collar::. Plus I have even more family members to keep in touch with. This is the first time in a few days I haven't been in two places at once.
Qualunque: I got a ribbon! Can you believe it? It's my first one ever. I've served on the USS Columbia and SB118 before, but nobody ever paid attention to me!
Una had been so proud of the achievement that she had worn her innovation ribbon to the event, leaving Eli wondering if he should of as well. He was as happy as she was, it’d been a first for both. As she showed it off, some of the other lower deckers gathered around and touched it. Now, Eli was regretting leaving his back in his quarters.
(OOC tweaked the dialogue to make it more congruent)
Kovacs: We all made out well, well deserved, both of you (smiling) I’ve been trying my hand in the arboretum in the ‘hobbyist garden’
but it seems that everything I touch doesn’t want to thrive — if you ever need
a plant to die ::jerking his thumb toward himself:: I’m your guy… I’m just
hoping it improves over time; I wouldn’t mind having some greenery in my
quarters.
Yinn: That's why I specialized in quantum physics and not xenobiology. I
can't keep anything alive. I was so bad at taking care of my pet gnillif as a
kid, my younger siblings basically kidnapped him to keep him safe from me!
Eli watched the
Klingon ‘half’ of the dual bodied officer depart from the circle while Yinn
still continued to be engaged — a bit envious of the advanced level of multitasking.
Qualunque: I rely on a holographic assistant with a green thumb to care
for my beautiful begonias. Computers never make mistakes, or at least very
rarely.
Kovacs: (smiling) Perhaps, but, for me at least, I feel it’s more authentic if it’s not computer aided. I think I’ve grown more in that direction since I met Lhando — watching the effort and soul he pours into a meal making it more delicious somehow. I mean, logically I know the replicator creates perfect copies, but there’s some psychological shift. You know what I mean?
Yinn: Response
Kovacs: Have you avoided the thumb of death
using it?
Qualunque: Yeah actually is a generic assistant, I can't afford the
energy quota to have one of my own, but I've managed to personalize a generic
one with my begonias data.
Yinn: Response
Kovacs: Well, if it’s for a good reason, I don’t see why the chief wouldn’t… the holo-hardware runs on completely different power systems so I’m sure that tap has more to spare.
Eli watched as Una took a moment to grab some more treats off the table, and he was a bit surprised at what he thought was her selection.
Kovacs: ::making a teasing face:: Tuna and Tequila?
Yinn/Qualunque: Response
Kovacs: Wellllll, I can’t argue that. And, what the heck is a gnillif by the way? ::laughing::
Yinn/Qualunque: Response
The event continued on for several more hours, with folks joining and departing
the different social circles until it was either time for them to report for
duty or hit the sack. Eli, who had struggled to make any friends, now felt he
had them in Loq’Yinn and Qualunque — a group he’d affectionately named the odd
balls given the wacky adventures they’d been on lately.
