((The town center, New Faren, New Bajor))
Rivka was minding her own business, enjoying a planet-side festival and the diversity of species it offered, when several off-duty crewmen had a medical/scientific crisis right in front of her.
Two of them were on the ground, the blue scientist (Rivka wanted to say “Yin” or was it “Yang?”) and a random Klingon. If they were to be believed, they were now sharing a consciousness. Not entirely unlike one (er… several?) of the refugees whose brains she had scanned earlier that very month.
The others had suggested that what had happened was not altogether unsimilar to a paused Vulcan mind-meld. That was unfortunate. All the Vulcan’s she had known—even the scientists—got super resistant when the subject of mind-melds came up. They claimed that the mind-meld was too personal to be the subject of a human’s science experiments. Hypocrites.
Rivka shrugged off the thought and waved her scanner at and between the two beings.
Brzezinski: Hmph. Elevated Beta-waves. (beat) I think we need to get you to the labs for more analysis!
She tried not to sound too eager. Her last performance review had suggested working on getting a ‘bedside manner.’
Yinn: Agreed. But do not beam us up. Whatever happened could be undone, or made worse. I'd like the chance to study the effects first.
Rivka nodded at her fellow scientist—that was the spirit—study the problem before trying to undo it!
Fer’at: Hm. The most logical thing to do would be to return to the ship, though Sickbay might be the better choice.
For a supposedly intellectually curious people, Vulcans could be real mood-dampeners in the presence of new scientific wonders.
Brzezinski: (shrugging) Sure. There’s a decent cMRI in sickbay, that would probably give us some vital information.
Loq/Yinn: responses
Brzezinski: The more we learn, the better.
Fer’at: That may be so, but logically, they would benefit under a medical officer’s care.
The Vulcan gave Rivak a side-eye. She suspected he was just appending the word “logic” to whatever his own opinions were. But it didn’t matter, they could do more than one thing at the same time.
Brzezinski: Well then logically we’ll either have to go back to the ship or beam a medical officer down here. (beat) But without all their equipment, I don’t think they’ll be nearly as effective.
Loq/Yinn: responses
Fer’at: Then it would be best if Loq and Yinn make the choice, as the condition is theirs to bear.
Loq/Yinn: responses
Brzezinski: Great, I’ll call one down!
Rivka took a step back from the cluster of officers to call the ship, but not too far. She didn’t want to be left out of this opportunity.
Loq/Yinn/Fer'at: responses
Brzezinski: =/\= Brzezinski to the Butler. We have a medical emergency at my location and need a shuttle, stat! =/\=
OEB Coms Tech: =/\= Roger that, do you just want us to beam up those at your location? =/\=
Brzezinski: =/\= No! No transporters—the officers are in too delicate a condition—actually, can you beam a shuttle to our location maybe? Or close by? =/\=
OEB Coms Tech: =/\= Uh… I dunno. I’ll see what we can do. Either way, we’ll get you that shuttle. =/\=
Loq/Yinn/Fer'at: responses
Rivka stepped back to the others.
Brzezinski: I got us a shuttle, it should be here real quick.
She played with the settings of her neuro-sensors and started another pass.
Loq/Yinn/Fer'at: responses

((OOC: All thoughts expressed above are character's, not author's. Also, after my last OCC note about Rivka only wanting to scan brains, she contacted me and wanted me to pass along that she is not a one-note character! (that being said, when I pressed her for a counter-example, she was not able to provide one. Should she think of something else, I'll pass the note along to the rest of you...)))
