(( Bridge, Deck 1, USS Octavia E. Butler ))
The crew had done a stellar job repairing key systems on the bridge. When he'd first arrived after escaping the officer's mess—after their return to the OEB—he found a bridge that might have been written off as a total loss. It would have been, if not for the operations and engineering teams working so well together to make repairs.
Looking around the bridge, Toxin observed a skeleton crew—it was currently night shift, and he'd ordered the remaining officers off duty to recuperate after they'd spent the better part of a day monitoring for any tail that might have followed them.
First Officer’s Log, Stardate 240211.12
The Octavia E. Butler is currently en route to the I-Kiyo's Dyson ring, at warp seven, following our successful mission at Marohu III. Despite the complications introduced by Toal'Dius and his mercenary force, we've secured valuable archaeological artifacts and data that should prove instrumental in our diplomatic relations with the I-Kiyo Historical Academy.
Engineering teams continue working to purge the advertisement viruses from our systems and restore full functionality. Security sweeps have also identified and contained several additional threats the mercenaries left behind during their brief occupation of the ship. The Captain is recovering in Sickbay following their exertions during the crisis, and I've assumed command for the duration of our transit.
Our ETA to the Dyson ring is approximately eighteen hours. In the meantime, I've called LTJG Forsyth to the bridge for a unique mission.
End Log
Toxin adjusted his position in the commanding officer's chair at the center of the bridge and began reviewing the special assignment for Alex on the arm console. He'd set up the other arm console to display ship status reports—he was hoping the warp system would be repaired enough to reach warp 8, at the very least.
Mission: 109554-3112.8
Classification: Level 2 (Classified)
Primary Objective: The OEB is to provision a security task force to locate and secure a potential mercenary encampment on Toldius 3. The team is to collect information & data with specific focus on intelligence regarding weapons transports in the quadrant, particularly between the K'ktor, the Consortium, and reports now indicate the UDP.
End Mission Brief
If it wasn’t for the ship’s current state and the exhaustion of it’s officers, Toxin would have put together a team lead by a Lt. Commander or Major but their resources were stretched thin and, after consulting with Captain Rouiancet, he felt this would be an ideal mission for LTJG Forsyth to take on, get her feet wet, so to speak. As he finished reviewing the log the door opened and Alex approached.
Arlill: ::standing up:: Ah Lieutenant, thank you for joining me at this late hour. ::turning to the skeleton crew:: Lieutenant Ansley, you have the conn. ::to Alex:: follow me.
Toxin made his way over to the conference room.
Forsyth: Response
Arlill: All will be answered in due time Lieutenant, and trust me, I think you’ll like what I have for you.
Toxin tapped a nearby console and brought the large display to life; it already showed Toldius 3 and general geographic, geological, astronomical, and other planetary data along the side column.
Arlill: Starfleet has asked us to collect some information on Toldius 3 on weapon transports that are happening. Unfortunately, the OEB requires a few days in dock at I-Kiyo for repairs. Since we're the only Starfleet ship in the area, we've chosen to send an away team to investigate. ::handing a PADD with the mission brief to Alex:: Here are all the details. You'll take Ensign Taylor as your comms and helm officer and bring Sh'shelor and Shyvo for muscle and data analysis; hopefully, you won’t need it. Any questions?
Forsyth: Response
Arlill: Very well ::walking towards the door and pausing:: I suggest taking the Patternmaster—it's smaller and less detectable. Honestly, it's the only shuttle we have that hasn't taken a beating recently. ::beat, continuing onto the bridge:: ::turning towards Alex:: I have every faith in you, Lieutenant. You've got this. But if you get into trouble, don't hesitate to reach out for backup. ::beat:: Okay?
Forsyth: Response
