((USS Octavia E Butler - CMO’s office - Sickbay deck 5))
Bringing files up to date, Toz let her eyes close. Not sleeping. Just resting. As her grandmother would say, “Just resting my eyes, dear.” Smiling, Toz admitted she missed being on earth with her family. Whatever was happening there, she was too far away to help. IF she could help. Her father had taught her well: Accept things you can’t change. Worry about mom and instead pay attention to the job.
Picking up Miash’s report on a Klingon new to the ship, Toz read with interest. How a Bolian talked a Klingon into drinking and… cavorting with her made Toz extremely curious. Dr. Toz shook her head. Something else out of her control. oO Shake it off, Toz. Besides, none of your business. Yet. Oo
A faint ‘bing’ sounded from the doctor’s console. What looked to be a recovered Borg stood in the entrance to sickbay. Toz stood quickly, pulled a padd from the stack on her right corner desk and went to meet him. He was dressed in the green duty uniform of the Marine Corp. Toz didn’t feel the usual cramped sensation of being cornered and ready to be tortured that she did with the senior marines on the ship. Maybe she’d gotten over that fear she’d held onto for so long.
Xaivis: Doctor Toz?
Toz paused in order to tap commands into her seemingly empty padd. In a quarter of a second, the man’s service record was displayed.
Toz: You’re a liberated Borg? And the newest member of our crew?
oO A bit obvious, Toz. Oo
Xaivis: That’s correct, Second Lieutenant Jacen Xaivis…here for my service clearance medical.
Once again staring at the padd, Toz realized that Command had made the appointment for their newest member of the crew. She’d been distracted by the Sol situation (of which she still knew nothing) that she hadn’t scanned her appointment schedule. Ignoring her error, she turned back to her patient.
Toz: Welcome to the Octavia E Butler.
Xaivis: Thank you, Doctor – please, lead the way.
Toz: Come on in. Bio bed 4, if you will. You’re a Combat Rescue Officer? ::pause:: Personally, I never heard of a combat rescue officer. Are you attached to the medical department?
Xaivis: response
As the 2nd lieutenant pushed himself onto the bed, the readouts overhead lit up. His implants were mostly disconnected where they weren’t removed. This was the doctor’s first real Borg encounter. Medical classes were almost-thorough. Since they were limited in the number of Borg corpses they were able to attain, students were given a mere overview. The way Toz interpreted that was that she was to get her experience -if needed- from a Borg him-her self.
Toz: You’re in good shape for the shape you’re in, lieutenant. Scars, your hair seems to be growing normally and your brain activity is… well, normal.
Xaivis: response
Toz: Where is your alcove set up? We could utilize a storage area here near sickbay if you need.
Xaivis: response
Where this whole conversation would go was only a guess but Toz felt a sort of kinship to Lt. Xaivis. Being part Klingon made her feel like a Borg once in a while.
