((Main Engineering, Deck 11, USS Octavia E. Butler))
It was frustrating.
No, it was infuriating. He was a first rate transporter operative. Superlative even.
There was no ego or bragging involved. It was simple fact that he was a natural with transporter technology.
So when the simple act of transporting a couple of crewmembers back up from the planet had landed them in the wrong transporter room – and upside down! - he was beyond embarrassed. He had a reputation for being able to transport a peanut out of a specific bag
on the surface, materialise it, and put it back again before the others had even had chance to resettle in the bag. Which made this “accident” all the more galling.
Something had been off on his logs when he had checked them afterwards, but the systems were showing optimal performance. There was nothing wrong with the systems, and the logs showed there was nothing wrong with his actions.
He needed help from an engineer.
Paradi: Lieutenant Kessler?
Herrick: (startled) Oh… hi. Just lost my thoughts.
The Engineering Chief seemed perplexed by something, and Julien decided to hold off with his problem for a moment.
Paradi: Is something bothering you, sir?
Herrick: Have you noticed anything strange with the computer lately?
Aha, jackpot!
No need to hold off with his problem after all.
Paradi: Um, as a matter of fact yes.....
Herrick: response
Julien shuffled his feet nervously.
Paradi: Yes, that was me. But Lieutenant Br'desh and Crewman Watanabi are both perfectly fine!
A little flustered and with one or two bruises maybe, but still fine.
Herrick: response
Paradi: I can't find any issues within the transporter matrix, and the logs are clean.
Herrick: response
Julien chewed at the inside of his cheek. This was beginning to look like the beginnings of a real fun day.
Or not.
