“Healthy…After A Fashion”
((CMO Office, Deck Five, USS Octavia E. Butler))
Xaivis: Thank you, Doctor – please, lead the way.
Toz: Come on in. Bio bed 4, if you will. You’re a Combat Rescue Officer? ::pause:: Personally, I never heard of a combat rescue officer. Are you attached to the medical department?
Jacen smiled, few had. The programme hadn’t long been created but the concept had some roots in history – Combat Search and Rescue had been in thing since the early twentieth-century. That said there had always been war…and there would always be people who needed rescued in that kind of environment.
He followed the doctor towards the treatment area.
Xaivis: Not really…I’m a marine officer primarily. The Combat Rescue Officer programme is only a few years old but the idea is to have officers whose primary role is to provide theatre oversight with a specific focus on personnel rescue along six key tenants: prepare, report, locate, support, recover, and reintegrate.
He took a few more steps towards the biobed.
Xaivis: My background…since my liberation…is in medicine, paramedical training essentially – but we’re all marines.
Jacen hopped up on the bed and lay back. Toz pressed a few buttons and the screen blossomed into life displaying multiple readouts.
Toz: You’re in good shape for the shape you’re in, lieutenant. Scars, your hair seems to be growing normally and your brain activity is… well, normal.
He couldn’t deny, he felt pretty good but then he’d been liberated, what, eight years ago now…if she’d have seen him in those first two years…she’d have a different expression.
He cricked his neck slightly.
Xaivis: It’s been a long road…
He paused – he might as well start at the beginning.
Xaivis: I’ve had a great deal of my implants removed but there’s still a lot of internal ones – small but multiple. I’m approximately five to seven percent Borg technology according to my previous medical review. Mostly they’re tied to key organ systems so they can’t really be removed. So I still need to keep those well charged.
She clearly knew her stuff as her next question fed from her comment.
Toz: Where is your alcove set up? We could utilize a storage area here near sickbay if you need.
Xaivis: I’ve actually got that covered…it’s currently installed in the shuttle I arrived on. I’ll need to talk to someone from your operations and engineering team about that though – any recommendations?
Toz: Response
Xaivis: I’ll be sure to speak to them. Then, in addition to my implants I’ve got my little…infestation.
Toz: Response
They looked at the screen together as his have haemoglobin/half nanite blood stream flicked onto the monitor.
Xaivis: There they are…busy little bees. It’s one of the…for want of a better word…benefits.
Toz: Xaivis
