((Deep Space 14 - Arboretum))

Toz: Let’s go get some of that Greek food.

Jania shrugged and nodded.

Nis: You’re a rude guide.

Guide: It is illogical to want to wander around the arboretum when it is not your job anyway.

Katsim: Please lead on.

Jania had wanted to see the plants, but she wanted to try Greek food even more. Her symbiont did not agree with this plan, and roiled in her belly. It found most Terran foods to be repulsive. But that was fine; she was used to it being disappointed in her food choices.

((10 minutes later - Greek Island Bistro))

Souv-lucky Day was a shuttle that had been converted into a cafe; recently, they’d placed chairs and tables outside on the promenade, creating an island of what they called Greek food but was really a Mediterranean medley. There was little there that was not deep-fried.

At the buffet, Jania built her own gyro and scooped up a small mountain of French fries.

The three of them soon were seated and eating, conversation taking a back seat.

As they sat and ate, the station turned and the great windows let in white light from the nearby sun, and at that point, they could see the floating balls of petel stones around the space station. At first, they looked like fuzzy asteroids, cast in black by the bright rays of the sun.

But when the sunlight fell on them, they unfurled, opening up to reveal long white flowers like water lilies. These membranous flowers took in so much sunlight that they themselves glowed, and the light they threw off refracted into a rainbow of colors which doused the faces of Toz, Peri, and Nis as they watched in silent awe.

Nis: Hah! We didn’t need that stupid guide anyway.

END for Nis
