((Bridge, Deck 1, U.S.S. Octavia E. Butler))
Kimonzi really hadn’t prepared for this. She had taken charge as soon as she got on the bridge, but her thinking hadn’t taken her much farther beyond figuring out what the mercenary ship was doing. Well, she had said that at some point she wanted to possibly go into command…maybe.
Lahl: So, based on the data we have, what’s the ship’s likeliest target?
Jer-Legrand: I think it is us. The trajectory, the device Varik's interested in, the scorch marks all point in our direction.
Varik: I concur with the lieutenant. Course projections all suggest the vessel is setting an intercept course with the Butler or a closer proximity to the planet. Either way, it is heading in our direction.
Ojotha: No weapons lock yet.
Varik: Vessel is maintaining course.
Jer-Legrand: Given the circumstances, regulations state a yellow alert. What are your orders, Lieutenant?
Lahl had to think about this. She should have communicated with the captain as soon as she came onto the bridge…but wouldn’t the Captain have heard the same alert she had before they came up here?
Lahl: Maintain position, take us to Yellow Alert.
Jer-Legrand: Ojotha, see if you can use the probe to get an analysis of the incoming vessel, and Varik, I need not say this, but do be ready to react.
Varik: Yes, sir.
Kimonzi watched as everyone got down to business.
Ojotha: Aye Lieutenant. It is of…Lethean origin. Attempting to ascertain their weapons capabilities.
Lahl: What’s the latest on that ship Ensign Varik?
Varik: They are altering course. Course projections suggest the planet is their intended target now.
Jer-Legrand: Let’s put ourselves in their way?
Lahl: Sounds like a good idea. Ensign, maneuver us into their way.
Varik: Yes, sir.
She felt the Butler gently move into an intercept position with the mercenary ship. This was going to get exciting sooner rather than later.
Varik: We are in position. Their vector will put them in weapons range in less than three minutes.
Varik: Lieutenant, they are... ::beat:: hailing us. On screen?
Jer-Legrand: Shall I?
Kimonzi looked over to Percy. If he wanted to take the call, she was more than willing to let him take the call.
Lahl: It’s all yours.
Jer-Legrand: This is the Federation Starship, Octavia E. Butler. What is your purpose here?
Lahl: ::typing from the Captain’s chair to Captain Rouiancet:: Captain, we need you on the bridge. We have made contact with the mercenary ship.
Incoming Vessel: What is your purpose here?
Varik/Ojotha/Incoming Vessel: Responses
Lahl scrunched her face up at his remark. They asked him first, he should be the one to answer.
Lahl: We are here on an exploratory mission. Again, we ask, what is your purpose here?
Incoming Vessel: We are also here on an exploratory mission. What a coincidence that we are both here for that purpose.
Jer-Legrand/Varik: Responses
Kimonzi looked over at Percy at the Mercenary’s words. That didn’t make any sense. Mecenaries like that didn’t explore. But they were probably lying.
Lahl: What do you mean you’re here on an “exploratory mission”? We both know that’s not true. You’ve already attacked the archaeologists down on the surface once already.
Incoming Vessel: You call it attacking, we call it exploring. Same same.
Jer-Legrand/Varik: Responses
Lahl: Absolutely not “Same same.” Exploratory missions don’t involve weapons and explosives.
Where the “untranslated Ancient Trill Cursing” was the Captain? This was not going according to plan. Not at all.
Incoming Vessel: So then, I should assume that if we scan your ship, you’ll have no offensive capabilities?
Jer-Legrand/Varik: Responses
