OOC: Echoing discord and OOC here. Sorry for the delay.
((Undisclosed Secret Lair Dome, I-Kiyo Dyson Ring))
There was a lot of stress and anxiety amongst the team of Engineers and the Starfleet officers. A solution seemed to be on the horizon of course all they had to do was wait for the results.
Engineer: The Sn’alzi’to Rotational Cylinder appears to be slowly being misshapen as friction has caused it to deform which will lead to our eventual demise.
Herrick: oO Loving the optimism here. Oo
Engineer: Yes. Indeed.
Anton gave Lahl a flat smile that was supposed to be reassuring.
Richards: Lahl?
Anton knew that he was probably adding to stress levels, but they needed to focus less on a guaranteed doom and maybe she could help with that.
Lahl: Look, we just need to figure out how to reengineer a 12,000 year old shield generator. How hard could it possibly be?
Anton couldn’t quite tell if this was sarcasm or not.
Richards: Exactly.
Engineer: Then what do you suggest we do about it?
Anton turned and looked towards Lahl again. Probably once more adding to her stress.
Lahl: Well, what is the first thing we can do? Would it be possible to replicate all new components for this and just replace everything?
This seemed like a good idea to Anton, and it was the first one that they had and sometimes these things took time. Something that they didn’t exactly have. He looked towards the Engineer who already had a goofy scowl on his face.
Richards: You guys have tried that I take it?
Engineer: And how do you plan on replacing them once you have the said parts?
Lahl: Right, we’d need to turn it off to Ship of Theseus it.
Anton pretended he knew what this meant as he nodded along. Probably some old trill folklore he thought to himself. This was something that his father was probably aware of.
Herrick: The only issue with our replicators is we don’t have a reference pattern; we’d need a working replica of the cylinder or at least a proper 3D model for us to create something usable.
Mi’ch’ael 65: So, you can’t help us?
Herrick: I didn’t say that, just that we just need some options.
Engineer: We don’t have time for options.
Anton was getting a little frustrated at the Engineer at this point and he couldn’t help himself from chiming in.
Richards: Sure we do. Look. ::pointing towards the countdown:: Time.
Herrick: So, a crazy idea. We could try to run some of the fragments of the old manuals and see if there’s anything there that could help with our current… predicament.
Anton looked back and forth between the four.
Lahl: Oh, that might work.
Richards: You are telling me that you’ve had this problem and it didn’t occur to you guys to check the manuals?
The Engineer’s scowl didn’t change much, but it was certainly more directed at Anton than it had been before.
Engineer: Of course we tried that!
Mi’ch’ael 65: That language fell out of fashion in the traditional era; we’ve never been able to translate it.
This surprised Anton, he knew that there had been some language barriers between themselves and the natives, but Anton had assumed that considering they were speaking Federation Standard that they had all of the translation databases that they would have.
Herrick: We have thousands of linguistic references; right now, we’re desperate for options and this seems to be one. ::producing his tricorder and flipping it to the UT program::
Engineer: Translators have already tried to decode the language.
Richards: Well we might as well give it a try.
Lahl/Mi’ch’ael 65: Response
The engineers piled behind Herrick as they watched the tricorder results come in.
Richards: Seems like it’s working.
Lahl: Response
Eventually the tricorder display stopped on a component that appeared to be the same one that had shown up in their diagnostics. All the make-up properties and Engineer schematics were on full display.
The Engineer's scowl turned into a look of humble astonishment. Which was Anton’s favourite part of the scenario.
Herrick: Is that… it?
Lahl/Engineer: Response
Herrick OOC: Feel free to add as much as you want here, just bringing us to a close)
((Some time later, inside the core of the generator))
After some clearance and logistics were taken care of, Anton watched as the cylinder that had first appeared on their diagnostics and then on Herrick’s tricorder, appeared in physical form as it was transported down.
Herrick: Ready?
Richards: So just a simple swap out?
Engineer/Lahl/Mi’ch’ael 65: Response
To Anton it appeared to be a relatively simple swap out process. Backup generators were used and as soon as the system was shutdown and isolated, Mi’ch’ael reached in and swapped out the component and quickly replaced the panel.
They probably would have taken a bit longer to relish in this process had they not been on such a strict timer.
Herrick: So… did we do it?
Richards: It looks like it.
Engineer/Lahl/Mi’ch’ael 65: Response
Everyone appeared to be getting along now, and even the Engineer that had been scowling the entire time had a smile plastered on his face. As the project winded down, pleasantries were exchanged briefly before scheduling and time eventually came into play once more and different sets of transport arrived taking individual groups off to their new destination.
As the transport designated for the party (denoted by the blacked out windows) arrived, Anton stepped in without delay. It seems being timely, at least in the presence of the synths had worn off on him.
