(( Diplomatic Conference Room 1, Deep Space 14 ))
Dolce was feeling somewhat good about this situation. There was still a lot of work to do, but this one thought that a good dialogue could be had.
Dolce: Oh, yes, yes, those ones wanted information about Cheyd’lang.
Halloway: Yes, the whole point is to get to know each other more.\
Loq: Our war with the Dominion was costly on all sides. We'd much prefer to have friends in the Gamma Quadrant.
This one appreciated that one’s honesty.
Nilsen: I’m glad to hear that.
Lohkina: And now there is precedent, after the assistance the Butler provided at Cheyd'lang last year.
Illini: It’s more than that. This one requires certain promises.
Dolce had to keep this one’s eyes from rolling. Of course that one had to put that one’s opinion out there.
Nilsen: What do you need? And what do you mean?
Lohkina: As Lieutenant Loq said, we all suffered because of the Dominion. The Federation has no interest in becoming another Dominion.
Illini: The King’s Path as those ones knew it is no more.
This one looked at Trinot as that one’s glass shattered in that one’s hand. Clearly old grudges were not dying that easily.
Trinot: Apologies, this one knows not their own strength.
Nilsen: Not to worry, we can get that cleaned up.
This one watched as that one cleaned it up himself. So it was true what those ones had said about that one.
Halloway/Loq: Responses
Lohkina: Perhaps more about the political situation on Cheyd'lang as it stands now?
Dolce: After those ones left…there was…some chaos on Cheydalanga.
Trinot: Many good folk were lost that day.
Illini: Certainly it was a terrible thing, and it was also the livelihood of many of the people on these ones’ world. It is no small disruption.
Nilsen: Can that one perhaps explain more? It was my understanding from the media that these ones saw — and do forgive me for how this sounds, as it's not my intention to offend — that the King's Path was (carefully choosing his words) not as popular as other castes?
This one appreciated the care that that one was taking with the the care to not offend these ones. It was a tight rope to walk, after all.
Halloway/Loq: Responses
Dolce: Those ones were not. However, there are still those that would believe in those one’s beliefs.
Trinot: We are still acclimating to the events that transpired back then, and the people are still working to accept those events and integrate them into the current reformation.
Illini: But this one is not here to moralize. The drinks are very good; that one mentioned food as well
Halloway: Of course, is there a preference?
This one gave this one’s order, and the food was brought to this one, who was very grateful. These ones did not have more than rations on the journey to this place.
Nilsen: The replicators can provide most foods and drinks, and we can always program it with your favourites so you have them at hand whenever you want.
Halloway/Loq: Responses
Dolce: This one thanks you.
Illini: Responses
This one ate carefully, not wanting to offend this one’s hosts. It was considered impolite to do so.
Trinot: So, all said and done, what are the grand ideas being thrown out here?
Nilsen: Well, our grand idea, at the end of the day is to have a positive diplomatic relationship with you, and it starts with meetings such as this, where we update each other on the matters at hand, and exchange cultural ideas.
Halloway/Loq: Responses
Lohkina: Nothing more than that, for now. Only communication.
Dolce: That is unfortunate. This one was hoping that there might be more.
Illini: Responses
Trinot: (looking between Dolce and Illini) And you think people are going to accept this?
Nilsen: Perhaps it might be a good idea to maybe enjoy our food and take a quick break to recover from the journey. I get the sense that some of you might want to have a little wander around DS14 first, perhaps get your bearings. We are not on a time limit.
((Some Time Later))
Nilsen: I trust that one is feeling a little more refreshed, Lower Tenente.
Truly, though, Nilsen was fine in his role, much better than Lohkina had given him credit for. That didn't mean that she didn't have any cause for concern -- diplomacy like this could go badly even for the most experienced practitioners -- but it did mean that she could begin to focus more intently on Domeni'Dolce, too.
Dolce: Yes, this one definitely is. Will this one’s companions be safe with the ridge headed one?
Nilsen: I (beat) This one trusts Loq, we have known each other for a while, I'm sure those ones will be okay. There was something this one was curious about. It was suggested that a lot has changed since our visit. Could that one tell me more?
Dolce: Cheyalanga has had…a lot of upheaval. Additionally, this one is taking classes, slowly, to design ships like this one flew in to get here, and like those ones used.
Lohkina: (exchanging a glance with Nilsen) These ones see.
Dolce: This one is glad.
Nilsen: Responses
Lohkina: If this one may make a recommendation: Tell us about that one's experiences, Lower Tenente. These ones understand best by understanding the experiences of others.
Dolce: Like this one said, there was a lot of upheaval. There are those that wish for more strict castes, but it has been somewhat good.
Nilsen: Responses
Dolce: That one has a good handle on what has happened. It has not been easy for these ones.
Nilsen/Lohkina: Responses
Dolce: This one almost didn’t make it to this meeting with those ones.
Nilsen/Lohkina: Responses
Dolce: There are many who did not want it to happen.
