((Chief Engineer’s Office, Deck 11, U.S.S. Octavia E. Butler))

Kimonzi had just wrapped up going over the Automaton with Lieutenants Varik and O’Reilly. She had gone up to her and Alex’s quarters to clean off the sweat from the heated holodeck and get a fresh uniform before coming back down to her office on Deck 11.

She nodded and waved to some of the lower decker engineers as she walked across the massive bay that housed the warp core and related consoles and power systems.

With a whoosh, the doors opened as Lahl approached, allowing her access to her inner sanctum. She walked over to her replicator, just to the right of the desk.

Lahl: Computer, Tea, recipe Lahl-0034.

She needed it sweet, but if she was going to sleep later today, she didn’t need the heavy caffeine hit. With a whirl of light and sound, the glass mug appeared with her drink. Kimonzi picked it up and took a sip.

Lahl: Ow! Hot hot hot!

Lahl blew over the top of the mug a couple times before putting it down on a coaster to allow it to cool. She should probably change the recipe so that it was the perfect temperature, but at this point, it was part of her process.

Lahl: Computer, start personal log, encryption Lahl dash omega dash eleven zero one.

With a beep, the computer started recording her dictation.

Lahl: My plans to subsume the Operations Department’s maintenance responsibilities into the Engineering Department continue, albeit slowly. Unfortunately, the multiple incursions into the computer system by various AIs and other bad actors have taken up a lot of my time. Additionally, the relatively recent promotions of Commanders Arlill and Nilsen, both formerly of the Operations Department, have meant that I need to be more discreet then ever in my plans.

She picked up her cup of tea and took a sip, savoring the sweetness with a smile on her face before continuing.

Lahl: However, that does not mean that I have been stopped in my efforts. With the turmoil of the various takeovers, my engineers have been called upon multiple times to work on various fixes and problems. In fact, Lieutenant Commander Cadfael Peters, not involved in this plan currently, was called to investigate the replicator in Commander Katsim and Colonel Greaves’s quarters. However, I still need to work with Ensign Moeller regarding his training and his part in this plan. He has improved, with fewer demerits since our talk and his transfer to Beta shift, but he still has not cut loose Khurlee and Lahray entirely.

Lahl paused for a second, and took another sip of her drink.

Lahl: Computer, side note, please produce a list of ships in the Gamma Flotilla Expeditionary Task Force with open Ensign Level engineering positions.

She heard the computer beep affirmatively and set her mug back down before going back to her personal log.

Lahl: Computer, resume personal log. While I need to remain discreet, Commander Nilsen’s elevation to the Executive Officer Position may be a blessing in disguise as he will be busy with his Executive Officer duties as well as his Diplomatic Department duties. Either way, my wishes and plans remain the same. Engineering will be the preeminent gold colored department on the Butler. Computer, end log.
