OOC Please do NOT consider Lia a very reliable narrator for this bit. I also didn't extend much since it'll probably be a slight jump at the end and I didn't want to push too far.

(( Bridge, Deck 1, USS Octavia E. Butler ))

Rouiancet: Then I see no reason not to have you escorted to the brig posthaste, unless--

The attack, when it came, was ill-advised, which was why it was such an incredible surprise. Lia didn't even know what she was doing before she was leaping toward Dius, all conscious thought gone, only her drive to protect her crew present in her mind. She wasn't even sure if she had, but she was very, very aware of the pain she was suddenly in.

Lahl: Captain?!

Varik: (shouting) Help her!

Then, for a moment or an age, nothing. Lia didn't experience the absence or the passage of time, or rather she wasn't aware that any time had passed, since she went from pain to pain. But the words didn't quite match up...

Lahl: You locked in the autopilot? ...

Varik: I am attempting to override.

Lia was gone again, and then back. The pain was dull now, repetitious, and she was at a remove, diving into and out of consciousness like a needle through cloth as her overtaxed body tried to shrug it all away.

Zet! She suddenly realized, or remembered. There was a Zet on the bridge, hideous and malevolent, and he'd shot her--!

Rouiancet: Security! Security!

Dius: If you wish, you can stand down ...

Another interminable period and Lia woke again, this time to a duller sensation, one that she was able to cogently recognize as the deep fuzz of painkillers. She was conscious, but she was badly hurt -- and protected by the security personnel, from the Zet who called himself the "once-king" Toal'Dius.

Varik: How about hold on to your butts!

Lia didn't feel very capable of holding on to anything at the moment, but the security personnel formed a closer buffer of their bodies. Maybe it was the shock and the injury, but she couldn't even recall any of their names. She tried to smile at them, to reassure them, but their attention wasn't on her, or at least not beyond securing her to the best of their collective ability.

The jerk, when it came, wasn't as bad as it might have been -- something to do with a modification to the inertial dampeners, unless Lia missed her guess -- but it was still enough to set her insides to sloshing around. She hoped through the dazed and distant pain that she didn't have any internal injuries, or that Jania was prepared for some heavy-duty casualties, including the CO.

Rouiancet: (woozy) Stop the slosh, please.

Dius/Lahl: Responses

Varik: (kicking away Dius's phaser) Autopilot disabled. We are holding position.

Rouiancet: Kimonzi.

Lia beckoned, at least as much as she was able to do so.

Rouiancet: Bridge is yours. Might need to put me under until Sickbay.

Or until a medical officer could make it up to the bridge, but Lia suspected Kimonzi filled in that possibility herself, especially since it seemed like Lia was trying to speak through the thick atmosphere of a gas giant.

Dius/Lahl: Responses

Varik: We have another problem!

Oh, no, not another one. Lia felt the hypo on her neck this time as the sedative -- and this one was more powerful, though not enough so that she went immediately under -- even as she strained against her own good sense to see what Varik meant.

And then she was out.

And then she was back, jerked from her induced unconsciousness by the violence of the lurch the ship had just experienced. She would have squawked if she had it in her, but all she managed was a strangled whimper.

Rouiancet: What? What?

Varik/Dius/Lahl: Responses
