(( Docking Port A-12, Deep Space 14 ))

This one was bored already. The spaceship was interesting enough, but Dolce and Trinot had insisted he stay sober on the journey, and instead of spreading out his things in his guest room, he’d been dragged right to this meeting. Rolo’illini had been assigned to this trip at the last minute, and he had had little time to prepare. He hadn’t had contact with the Federation on their visit to his planet, and he only knew about the fallout. And what fallout it had been. Without even meeting these people, his whole life had been shuffled around. Luckily, there was still a need for religion and still a need for fast talkers.

Nilsen: Greetings, I am Lieutenant Lhandon Nilsen, this is Lieutenant Qurgh'Loq, Ensign Halloway and Petty Officer Lokina. May we welcome you to Deep Space 14. I trust your journey was smooth

Dolce: Thank you Lieutenant Nilsen. This one is Lower Tenente Domeni'Dolce, and these ones are part of the diplomatic mission to the Federation. This one believes Lieutenant Nilsen was involved the last time this one interacted with those ones.

Trinot: Responses

Illini: And this one is Prelate Rolo’illini, as a representative of the Fraternal Order of Kings and Princes. This one is pleased to be at your service.

Loq/Halloway: Responses

Nilsen: That is correct. Lower Tenente, I was working with the UDP delegation in Operations while I believe you spent time with our captain (beat) but I am glad we have met now. Shall we?

Operations? Interesting, that was a good sign. It was always best when diplomats had some sort of background besides a decade’s worth of language classes.

Dolce: This one remembers this one’s time on the Federation Starship.

Trinot: Response

Lohkina: And how does this base compare?

Dolce: This base is…very impressive. This one is very impressed at its size.

Illini: Hopefully there are sources of entertainment aboard as well.

Loq/Halloway: Responses

Nilsen: We have to admit, this meeting took us by surprise somewhat. I would be interested to learn more about what has happened on Cheyd'lang since we left.

Dolce: These ones will be more than happy to explain once these ones are in a place that is not so open.

Trinot: Response

Illini: This one would love a moment to rest. This one is an elder, after all.

Lohkina: Certainly. Perhaps food and drink?

Dolce turned to the other officer, giving that one an appraising look. That one seemed to be considerate of these ones wants and needs, and Dolce appreciated it.

Loq/Halloway/Nilsen: Responses

Dolce: This one thanks…that one for that one’s kind consideration.

Trinot: Response

Illini: It’s the best news this one has heard all day.

Dolce: This one is certainly in need of food and drink. These ones have had a long journey to this base.

Loq/Halloway/Nilsen/Lohkina: Responses

Trinot: Responses

Illini: And it goes without saying that Starfleet will be flexible and willing to make concessions as well.

Dolce walked with the other members of the group as Lieutenant Nilsen led them to a conference room with a large table. This one appreciated the care being taken with them, but did internally facepalm at the forward mess of this one’s fellow Chey’d.

Dolce: This one apologizes. Like this one said, these ones have had a long journey.

Illini narrowed his eyes at Dolce. Apologies were unnecessary at this point. In fact, Illini had been sent along for this very reason: to make sure Starfleet didn’t get too much. It was not that the others didn’t trust Dolce, just that the Federation had already made a lot of changes to the local culture.

Loq/Halloway/Nilsen/Lohkina: Responses

Illini: This one hopes it is alcoholic.

Trinot: Response

Dolce drank his slowly, savoring it. Illini did the same, swirling the flavor in his mouth. It wasn’t bad. Nothing like the ales of his homeland of course, but not bad.

Dolce: This one has not had something like this in a bit.

Loq/Halloway/Nilsen/Lohkina: Responses

Trinot: Response

Illini: And presumably that one would care to explain our goals for the interaction.

Dolce: Oh, yes, yes, those ones wanted information about Cheyd’lang.

Loq/Halloway/Nilsen/Lohkina: Responses

Trinot: Response

Illini: It’s more than that. This one requires certain promises.

Loq/Halloway/Nilsen/Lohkina: Responses

Dolce/Trinot: Response

Illini: The King’s Path as those ones knew it is no more.

Loq/Halloway/Nilsen/Lohkina: Responses

Dolce/Trinot: Response

Illini: Certainly it was a terrible thing, and it was also the livelihood of many of the people on these ones’ world. It is no small disruption.

Loq/Halloway/Nilsen/Lohkina: Responses

Dolce/Trinot: Response

Illini sighed.  He’d had this conversation a thousand times on his world; he did not want to spend all day having it on this space station as well. He slugged back the remains of his drink.

Illini: But this one is not here to moralize. The drinks are very good; that one mentioned food as well?

((Diplomatic Conference Room 2, Deep Space 14))

The Prelate was surprised to find himself alone with Trinot and two of the other starfleet members. The diplomat had taken Dolce and left Trinot with these other two. Had a battle taken place, and Illini hadn’t even realized? Perhaps Dolce was more clever than these ones knew.

Trinot: So, are these ones sent to the side while the actual negotiations take place with those ones?

Illini: Perhaps these ones have been.

oO But perhaps that is not so bad.Oo

Illini had wanted to speak to Trinot in private, after all. And while he couldn’t say openly what he wanted to with these Starfleet officials around, perhaps he could get the message across in terms only one of his people would understand.

Loq/Halloway: Response

That was not a statement Trinot would take well, or at least Illini thought he would not take it well. Illini smiled and swigged his cup. The alcohol was good. He wondered if the other pleasures on the station were as good--and if he’d get to take advantage of them. After Federation contact, the planet had been inundated with information about other species; he had seen holograms of the Selay, and wow. For weeks, he’d hoped to lay eyes--and perhaps more than that--on one in person. He was a religious man, after all, and that meant cloistering, and study, and boredom.

Illini: It is important to know that all castes have always played a role in negotiating the future of the planet--even the castes Starfleet doesn’t like.

Trinot/Loq/Halloway: Response

Illini: :: to Trinity :: And that one knows that this one lives by the eternal words of Consul Ber’laghieri: “Even the weak together thrive over great ones apart.”

This was a dog whistle, or at least he hoped it would be. Laghieri was one of the founders of the King’s Path and the caste that would be known as the FOKP. He wanted Trinot to know there was a way forward for the vestiges of the King’s Path.

Trinot/Loq/Halloway: Response

A difficult question. Illini decided to ignore it.

Illini: This one’s needs are simple, if a bit extravagant. But this one is not the planet. So what can you offer these ones that these ones do not have alone?

Trinot/Loq/Halloway: Response
