(( Sickbay, Deck 5, USS Octavia E. Butler ))
Guthrah was still asleep on a biobed. He'd been sedated because the computer continued to notice strange brainwave activity from him, although it seemed to be calming as they left the system behind.
After an hour on the biobeds, Jania, Miash and Tubàn were right as rain and the computer assured them they were not at risk of an embolism from their exposure to depressurization. It was good timing, because that was about when the away team burst into the sick room, bleeding, beat up, and full o adrenaline.
Nilsen: We stared death in the face and told it to go do one. Treat Sh’shelor first. The Lieutenant got messed up. She took down like 200 of them nodes down herself. Tox you there?
Miash: Thank you dear, let me do the medical triaging, but I do appreciate your help darling.
Jania smiled at Miash, feeling proud to work with her. That said, Nilsen was right--the others were in bad shape, but Sh'shelor was bleeding considerably.
Nis: Also, it's not an issue of anyone getting care sooner. We've got enough biobeds for all of you. Can you tell us a bit about what the situation was like down there?
Sh’shelor/Caras: Response
As they explained their situation in depth, Jania put her hand over her mouth and nodded slowly. Her eyes widened with shock when they told her about their intentional radiation exposure.
Nilsen: Get over there, Mo. ::winces in pain:: You’re messed up too.
Morro wasn’t given a choice in the matter; Lhandon took Morro over to the second bed. Perhaps ignoring the medical staff here who at this point, might be trying to herd the 6'4 ripped rugby player, assistant chief of operations into place.
Sh’shelor/Caras: Response
Nis: And you, Lieutenant Nilsen?
Nilsen: No, no, Ensign, I’m good. I can ::out of breath:: I can walk this off. I've had worse. I gotta get back to the Dow. They need all the help that can get there.
Miash: I’m not going to say it again dear, you need to lie down.
Nis: Lieutenant Nilsen, we don't lack resources to help the Dow, but we will be a bit strained from a personnel standpoint if we're caring for your team and the Dow. Radiation poisoning can have unexpected side effects even weeks after the fact, so if you want to help the people Dow, your best bet is a quick check on the biobed. Under proper Starfleet procedure, we're meant to assist our own crew first and others second, so the faster you cooperate, the faster we can all help the people on the Dow.
Arlill: Lhandon, maybe you should listen to her. (Beat) We all need to take a beat.
Nilsen/Sh’shelor/Caras: Response
Nis: Nurse Miash, I'm sure you know the general treatment for radiation poisoning. While you're preparing it, I'll work on Lieutenant Sh'shelor's leg injuries.
Miash: :: looking a tricorder :: Looks like a round of Hyronalyn might be on today’s menu.
Miash moved over to the cart as the team’s conversation continued.
Arlill: Did anyone else notice anything weird before we left the Unity?
Nilsen/Sh’shelor/Caras: Response
Nis: To a doctor, "weird" is a code for "potentially medically relevant."
But Toxin didn't seem interested in sharing.
Arlill: Nevermind I’m sure it was my imagination recovering from the hallucinations
Jania inconspicuously set the biobed he was on to monitor his brainwaves.
Nis: Perhaps, but even if it was a hallucination, it'll help us determine treatment strategies. ::Pause to glance at Guthrah :: Ensign Guthrah experienced hallucinations as well, and his brain patterns are still somewhat abnormal. Knowing about your experience will help us treat him.
Arlill: Response
As he spoke, Jania nodded and moved to Sh'shelor to treat her leg wounds. If the Lieutenant had ever been in sickbay before for injuries of this sort, she might have been surprised that Jania didn't bust out the tricorder. After putting on rubber gloves, she examined the cuts, spreading a few with her fingers. Most looked to be from some kind of metal, but others looked like deep gashes from fingernails. She glanced at Sh'shelor's hands and noticed there was blue blood caked under the fingernails. oO Strange, but irrelevant to treatment. Oo
Nis: Most of these are superficial, but a few are deep and this one here has struck an artery. ::As she spoke, she used the back of her palm to put pressure on the one that was still weeping blood. :: The biobed will sterilize the wounds automatically. We'll use a vascular regenerator on the deep wounds before addressing the dermal wounds. We've heard Andorians sometimes like to keep scars. Should we leave any of these?
Sh'shelor: Response
Nilsen/Caras: Response
Arlill: What’s next? (beat) You’re all ordered to rest and relaxation, I’ll see to that!
Jania remembered that she had been off-duty when all this started, and that she was due a nap. She wished she could believe him, but had a feeling something would explode at any moment. Even without that, it'd be at least an hour before she was able to check on the Dow patients, and who knew what kind of shape they were in? oO Hey, you wanted to be in Starfleet; that's just how it is here. Oo
