(( Diplomatic Conference Room 1, Deep Space 14 ))
Dolce: This one has come to Deep Space 14 in an effort to get help for this one’s people. This one’s people need to see the galaxy at large.
Nilsen nodded at that, and Lohkina raised her brows at him.
Lohkina: A laudable goal, to be sure.
And it was, but it also seemed a little too perfectly tailored for a Starfleet audience. Lohkina was perfectly willing to admit that she might be paranoid, but better that she considered the possibility that Domeni'Dolce was playing the game with subterfuge perforce than it went unquestioned.
Nilsen: Certainly, and this one wonders if these ones can perhaps help that one?
Dolce: This one is hoping that those ones can help this one. Please. This one’s people need help reaching the world at large.
Nilsen: This one is sure that there are resources that these ones can offer to help with that (beat) reading and lectures perhaps?
Dolce: That would be helpful. This one would appreciate it.
Deep Space 14, or any starbase, would definitely be the place for it, especially since New Bajor was right there, too, and the base was already a hub not only for the officers and crew of Starfleet's task force but for diplomats, hustlers, entrepreneurs, and wanderers from around the region and beyond.
Lohkina: That one will have the opportunity, to be sure.
Nilsen: This one must ask, however — is such a move on your part one to be, erm, embraced by those ones' people?
An interesting question. Lohkina hadn't expected it, but it certainly made sense to ask.
Dolce: This one’s people would have some who would much appreciate it, like these one’s current leader. The leader wants to modernize Chey’d.
Lohkina: That one is attempting to do so for the good of that one's people. (beat; slight emphasis)
All that one's people?
Dolce: Like this one said, not all of these ones want that.
Which made sense with what Domeni'Dolce and the other delegates had said and done since their arrival. She wondered how Loq and Halloway were getting on with the other two Cheydalanga, and if their conversation had at all hit similar beats as this one.
Lohkina: Even so, some do, it seems.
Nilsen: Response
Dolce: However, there are many that do want to modernize. These ones are not solely at the whims of those of the former King’s Path.
Nilsen: Response
Dolce: This one understands, but this one thinks that with more help there will be more people willing to accept it.
Lohkina: And that one's people will welcome outsiders, should they come to Cheyd'lang?
A few Cheydalanga who sought out the wider galaxy were all well and good, but Lohkina -- who hadn't been assigned just yet -- had read plenty about the Butler's assignment at Cheyd'lang. Not only had there been much evidence of internecine conflict, but the planet as a whole had seemed unwilling or unable to cope with offworld visitors.
Dolce/Nilsen: Responses
Lohkina: That is the question, is it not? Ultimately, are the Cheydalanga ready for their world to expand?
She directed this partially at Domeni'Dolce, but she made sure not to miss Nilsen. As the diplomatic officer of one of the key vessels in the region, it was exactly the sort of question he should be prepared for.
