Boran heard some laughing coming from the door, which called her attention. When she turned her head towards the sound, she knew she had finally found her superiors. And boy, did they have a presence!
Jaz watched them silently, adjusting her form and looking as serious as she could, even if that meant covering up her excitement to be around all of the technology in the room. The first one to get to her was the Chief Engineering Officer, who had an unmistakably uniform that gave away her position. She introduced herself to Boran as Lieutenant Kimonzi Lahl, and they shook hands.
The other officers were interacting with each other, and she could only take a good look at them once they locked eyes with her. The first one to speak to Boran, was this gigantic officer that was almost a whole head taller than her 5'10 self.
Nilsen: Hello there, Ensign. I’m Lieutenant Commander Lhandon Nilsen. This is our commanding officer, Captain Lia Rouiancet. Welcome aboard.
He offered his hand to the new ensign, an old human custom that many humans still kept to. The Bajoran shook Commander Nilsen's hand, and confidently introduced themselves.
Boran: It's great to meet you, sir. I'm Ensing Boran Jaz, new Engineering Officer and I look forward to working with you all!
Rouiancet/Lahl: Response
Nilsen: I’m sorry we weren’t able to meet you in the transporter room when you arrived, but I’m glad to see you’ve settled in. How are you finding engineering so far?
Settle in was an understatement. Boran had enjoyed everything she got to see of The Butler so far, and was definitely having some good fun getting to know lower engineering, gathering as much data as she possibly could, with her little given time so far.
Boran: Honestly, sir? Loss of words. I'm having a great time nerding out and brainstorming the many ways I can be of use.
Rouiancet/Lahl:Response
Jaz knew she probably sounded a little weird. Well, that was not really an issue for her, she had never hidden from anyone how much love she has for everything engineering, and boy, was The Butler engineering in its purest form!
Lhandon then tried to highlight what he wanted the OEB to be, a good place where the officers were not afraid of their command staff. Boran listened carefully, feeling more comfortable and embraced by the Commanders as the seconds passed.
oO I feel like I can find a home here. Oo
Jaz kept it to themselves, but they did think that.
Nilsen: We’re far from DS14 and the wormhole, so we try to make this a good place to be. What’s your specialisation?
Boran couldn't help smiling at the question.
Boran: Power and propulsion engineering, Commander. But if I'm being honest, I'm enchanted by all things engineering.
The Bajoran glanced around the massive room again, eyes lingering on the warp systems and control stations.
Boran: Growing up, I used to take apart anything I could get my hands on just to figure out how it worked. Sometimes I even managed to put it back together afterwards.
A brief grin crossed her face.
Boran: Most of the time, anyway.
She rested her biomechanical prosthetic hand against the side of her toolbox.
Boran: I like power systems because they're the heartbeat of a ship. No power means no engines, no shields, no sensors... no anything. But honestly, if something breaks, I want to know how to fix it. Also, fair warning, if I disappear for a few hours, there's a decent chance I got distracted exploring a Jeffries tube somewhere.
Boran looked toward Lieutenant Lahl.
Boran: So what's Butler engineering's biggest headache these days? Every ship has one.
