[HOLODECK]

(( Bridge, Deck 2, USS Tiburon ))

Lohkina: A combination may work. Joining our warp bubbles, shifting shields around just a part of the Bedfordshire, and evacuating its crew.

T’Korva: It’s risky but does sound viable.

Johnson: (nodding) Two ships. One can’t stop. Eddies aren’t just flowing, they are changing their path, and intercepting our path. T’Korva, you said you’d witnessed it before? Can you tell us how they did it?

T’Korva: They were ultimately unsuccessful, but there was minimal loss of life ::beat:: a success?

Johnson: So…what if we take T’Korva’s idea and modulate it a little bit. Kinda use my earlier idea, and sort of combine them into something that may or may not work, but hopefully won’t kill everyone. (beat) Okay, we’re about ten…maybe fifteen minutes before we reach the eddies, or they reach us. If we match the speed of the Bedfordshire, we can merge the warp fields, and we should be able to access their systems and draw power to boost the shields. Because we’ll be in such close proximity, the shields from both ships will actually just extend to each other, and strengthen each other.

Lohkina: Yes! Yes, exactly!

The three crew members appeared to be in sync, impressive to T’Korva, the seasoned officer who felt like a ensign in the presence of these creative crew members—it seemed appropriate.

Standing at her console she could feel the cool control surface below her fingers, the energy shielded by polymers, yet she felt like she could feel the ship’s pulse. Engines were working overtime, weapons were at the ready. Her fingers danced across the controls in practiced choreographed movements. She quickly loaded the frequencies of ships’ shielding and warp bubbles before pulling up the prefix code console for their captain and sending it to their station.

T’Korva: Captain frequencies of the shields and warp bubbles have been identified, I am sending those to engineering, I have also sent the prefix authorization to your console for access to the Bedfordshire’s critical systems.

Johnson: Responses

Lohkina: Yes, and immediately. Bring us up to the Bedfordshire, Johnson, and merge fields. T'Korva, as soon as we're merged, signal the transporter rooms to start beaming crew off, and then I want you working on how to achieve Johnson's idea for the combined shield strength.

She was already well ahead of the captain having sent the command to the make-believe transporter room to begin preparations for emergency warp beam outs. She took another step to order shuttles at the read for emergency operations, should this go south.

T’Korva: The transporter rooms are at the ready and I have alerted shuttle operations to be on stand by if this doesn’t work.

Johnson: Responses

Lohkina: Very good point. So our timeline is even shorter than it appears.

T’Korva: Something is off captain, it appears the Bedfordshire is ::beat:: accelerating? ::looking over towards the captain::

Her console read out the important tactical assessment data any tactical officer required when planning their attacks, which included the speed of their target. She’d already set the Bedfordshire as a target in their system, not to destroy it, but keep their sensors locked onto it as their primary focus and objective.

They would need to move quickly, there appeared to be additional eddies forming at the far range of their sensors.

T’Korva: I’m picking up additional eddies forming at our current trajectory.

Johnson/Lohkina: Responses

They weren’t wrong, they would need to move quickly if they were going to make this work at all.

T’Korva: We have three transporter rooms and two cargo transporters at the stand by, based on the expected compliment of officers, crew members, and civilians aboard the Bedfordshire, we will need every minute we have to get them off that ship.

It could have gone without saying, but she understood the importance of this test, of building the scene so young officers — in this case Lohkina and Johnson, could get their bearings and find the type of officers they will be in tense situations.

Johnson/Lohkina: Responses

T’Korva: The warp bubbles will make contact in 10, 9, 8, 7 ::the ship began to shake aggressively:: oO Did I get the right frequencies, is there something else I missed?? Oo I’m not sure what’s causing this captain, but I can not promise it will work if we can’t get it under control.

The ship shuttered and shook as it made further contact with the shields and warp bubble of the Bedfordshire — the ultimate test of their resilience — honorable.

The ship then shook violently, almost throwing T’Korva from her station, but she stood tall, grasped the console and pulled herself back in time to see any number of red error messages flashing across her console.
