((Sickbay - Deck 05 - USS Octavia E. Butler))

Wes was gone.  A moment before, he had been one of the bodies populating Sickbay, but in another instant, he swept out the door, intent upon joining their captain on the bridge.  That was as it should be.  Although Peri hadn’t heard the call, the fact that Rouaincet had tried to communicate with the marine indicated her desire to have him join her - and that was exactly what he was going to do.

In the meantime, there was more they had to deal with in Sickbay.  Peri had found the poison in Vuq’s system, and if she had found it, there was no doubt that Nis had likely done so even earlier than she.  Stepping up to the Trill doctor, she brought out her PADD and on the screen, showed her own brief dive into the makeup of the toxic substance that coursed through the mercenaries’ veins.

Katsim: Have you examined the chemical composition?  It’s unlike anything I’ve seen before.

Nis: Response

Although Wes was gone, other marines remained behind, and Woolheater was the ranking one in Sickbay.  Out of the corner of her eye, Peri saw him move and take note of their surroundings.  Although the mercenaries were under control, he obviously didn’t want to take any risks - a wise decision in her mind.  The man attached a tricorder to his arm and began to murmur with another marine as she inclined her head toward the doctor.

Katsim: We need to break it down to its simplest components.

Scans were all well and good, but she knew that if they wanted to dive deeper, that would require a blood sample.  Her eyes drifted across the number of mercenaries in sickbay.  Any of them could provide a blood sample, but would they consent to it?

Nis/Woolheater: Response

Keeping her voice low, Peri murmured softly to Nis.

Katsim: I recommend we take it from Vuq.  Of all of them here, he’s the most severely affected.

Whereas most of the other mercenaries were still in control of their faculties, Vuq was not.  Even as the officers worked on him, his body trembled and shook and his mouth opened in soundless agony.  Wincing as she laid her eyes upon him.  Peri didn’t particularly like just taking something without properly asking, but in that particular case, she felt it necessary.

Nis/Woolheater: Response

Katsim: Woolheater, keep guard on Doctor Nis.

While Vuq was unlikely to be a problem, that wasn’t a complete guarantee.  Not only that, they had other mercenaries to contend with.  She wanted a dedicated marine watching out for Nis and only Nis while the others focused on the other mercenaries and keeping them controlled.

Nis/Woolheater: Response
