1stLt Samuel Woolheater – The Extraction
(( Bridge, UDP Svisivak - Tlugani Nebula ))
The extract team had made their way to the bridge of the crippled UDP freighter. When the bridge doors finally opened, they found her standing amid smoke, haze, and failing systems, the ship’s captain. The lighting was low, her slender frame half-lost in shadow, but her posture was unmistakable: proud, unbowed. One arm was in a sling, her shoulder badly injured. Sam didn’t need a tricorder to know she was hurt. Despite the pain, she stood her ground, refusing to let the situation best her.
Samuel got a better look at the Vorta captain when a panel for the fire suppression system exploded. She was Vorta. But gone were the days of Vorta “royalty”; that arrogant demeanor was not in her eyes, nor was defeat or helplessness. Such a people, he thought. If this was who the Vorta were now, they were not what history remembered.
It was Wes’ voice that brought the situation back into focus.
Greaves: =/\= Understood. Treat urgent casualties first but prioritize getting Luriaa back here ASAP. I want to have a conversation with her while you two continue working on the ship. =/\=
Woolheater: =/\= Aye, sir. Executing. =/\=
Samuel identified the extract team to captain Luriaa and he didn’t waste time. Time was a resource that was quickly expiring. He asked where the other survivors were. With her one good hand, Luriaa motioned to the door that led into the little office. She had kept the others there, close by, and Siragin was in there tending to them.
Luriaa: Through those doors are the only three crew left alive besides me. The Konaii is Siragin, the Hyurandan is Hephtas, and the Dosi is Uri.
Woolheater: Captain Luriaa, this is Doctor Ragh, a medical officer, here to help get you and any of your crew out of here.
Sam would have opened the door himself, but he understood
her desire not to be coddled or assisted. She opened the door to a smaller office
area where the three survivors were gathered. Sam didn’t recognize all of the
species, but he knew that look.
Ragh worked quickly. HM1 Serrano assisting him as needed. And in a moment, Ragh
had made a triage plan.
Ragh: =/\= Ragh to Talents, one critical to be beamed over. Medics to stabilize and prep for emergent craniotomy. Second coming to, consussed but should be okay. Treat accordingly until I return. =/\=
Greaves: =/\= Keep it up. We’re staying on monitor and keeping the channel clear. Call if you need anything. =/\=
Sam scanned the bridge visually, while no weapons fire that he could see here, the damage was unmistakable. The freighter had been attacked and boarded. The wounds on the survivors were from impact and weapons fire. Woolheater clocked that the bridge was one of the last places to be taken and not the first. He noted to himself that whoever did this to them was very interested in the cargo.
Woolheater: =/\= Talents, we have found the survivors and the freighter captain. Ragh and Serrano are ready to transport. =/\=
A compartment aft of them collapsed and the decompression sent a shudder through the vessel. Sam glanced at any of the working bridge terminals but he could not discern what had happened. HM1 Serrano jumped a bit. And an alarm blip sounded; Serrano’s suit readings had spiked just enough to set off the tactical display.
Woolheater: Explosive decompression; we’re good. We do need to move out though. Sam setup the transporter enhancers in a triangular pattern as close to Ragh and Serrano as he could manage.
Greaves/Ragh/Luriaa: Response
JoNz: =/\= Serrano/Comm Line =/\= Serrano, this is JoNz. You good? Your readings spiked a bit there.
Serrano: ::to JoNz:: =/\= I’m good, just had a moment. =/\=
SSgt. Eli Navarro and Woolheater moved debris out of the way as quickly as they could. Assisting the freighter crew as they would let them.
Greaves/Ragh/Luriaa: Response
Sam finished his visual recon of the bridge and in the time remaining tried to read captain Luriaa. The Vorta captain eluded him though. She remained defiant and strong the entire time.
Woolheater: Your cargo? Is that why you were attacked?
Sam asked the question. She sort of answered him.
Luriaa: I request that the supplies we have be transported to your ship.
He’d take that as a “yes”. Maybe the Colonel would have better luck. She looked like a young Vorta to him though. What were her memories of the Dominion War he wondered.
Woolheater: ::to Ragh:: Doc? You ready to book?
Ragh: Response?
Luriaa: I wish to speak to Lieutenant Colonel Greaves.
Woolheater: Yes captain, right away. I’d like to get a copy of your nav and sensor logs, cargo manifest as well, with your permission of course? Then we’ll see if we can patch your ship up or put you in tow back to DS14.
Luriaa/Ragh: Response?
Sam detected some irritation in her at his request. However, it was hazy and not well lit in here. She looked like she was in a lot of pain. Sam opened his standard tricorder which could tell him a few things. He showed her the tricorder and then conducted a very general scan. She spoke as he did that.
Luriaa: It is important to the survival not only of what’s left of my crew, but of yours. I’m well aware this freighter is in no condition to move on its own and I doubt the vessel you’re in can easily tow her.
Sam showed her the results; nothing that she didn’t already know. She needed medical attention.
Woolheater: Captain, we might surprise you with what
we can do. Let’s get you looked at and I know you’re wanting to talk to our CO. ::Sam motioned for Staff Sergeant Navarro::
Staff Sergeant? Please escort the captain here to Colonel Greaves?
SSgt Navarro: ::sharp nod:: Aye Sir! Captain, if you’ll follow me?
Luriaa/Ragh: Response
After all the survivors were away, Sam exchanged a look with Gunny Ionescu and contacted the Talents.
=/\= Talents actual. The captain is on her way to see you sir. She expressly asked for to speak with Lieutenant Colonel Wes Greaves, sir. Navarro is escorting her up the manual docking hatch. =/\=
JoNz/Greaves: Response?
Sam opened up his tri-corder and did his best to interface
it with the onboard systems of the Svisivak. He was able to get partial
logs, partial nav history and partial sensor data. The damage was
extensive. When the computer gave out
and they got as much as they got, Sam closed the tricorder and contacted the Talents
once more.
=/\= Talents? Gunny and I are proceeding to one of the intact cargo bays
to inventory the medical supplies. Give
us ten more minutes and let’s salvage what we can. I’m not being too picky. If
it looks intact we’ll grab as much as we can. I know you have your hands full
JoNz. Just don’t cut us loose without
saying goodbye. =/\=
JoNz/Greaves: Response?
