to USS Octavia E. Butler
(( Bridge, Deck 1, USS Octavia E. Butler ))
An incoming ship is always a cause for an eyebrow raise; an incoming ship that is the mercenary vessel they were tracking before now coming towards them is cause for a double eyebrow raise. Percy, who had joined Lahl and Varik on the bridge, had taken the second-in-command position, mostly because Lahl had more context. While Percy was dealing with the little picture down in the shuttle bay, Lahl had the big picture.
Jer-Legrand: Given the circumstances, regulations state a yellow alert. What are your orders, Lieutenant?
As was the way with things, an update from another crew member always seemed to add extra tension to matters.
Varik: Vessel is maintaining course.
Lahl/Ojotha: Responses
Jer-Legrand: Ojotha, see if you can use the probe to get an analysis of the incoming vessel, and Varik, I need not say this, but do be ready to react.
He had known Varik in passing enough to know that the Rekarian was a consummate professional with a wealth of experience from the USS Atlantis and the USS Chin'toka. Percy had also known that on those ships, he had served as a tactical officer. Varik could very well be a useful person to have.
Varik: Yes, sir.
Lahl/Ojotha: Responses
Varik: They are altering course. Course projections suggest the planet is their intended target now.
Jer-Legrand: Let’s put ourselves in their way?
Percy looked over at Lahl, giving her the chance to countermand his orders. He was confident in himself but not cocky like some others; he didn't think he was the Prophets' gift to Bajor. That came through as he spoke. His accent, which sounded like French softened with Federation Standard, had featured more open vowels, and only now and again had he dipped into the back of his throat where his natural French accent lay.
Lahl/Ojotha: Responses
Varik: Yes, sir.
The Butler moved under Varik's command, and it turned on its axis as its bow shields pointed towards the incoming vessel. Percy knew the thrusters helped with the positioning, something other ships hardly have, or are just not installed, meaning that while it's a sizeable ship, the Butler was easy to fly… He waited for the moment that Varik discovered that Nilsen had also programmed holographic foot pedals. Not exactly stock, but well-liked by the "bro-roomies."
Varik: We are in position. Their vector will put them in weapons range in less than three minutes.
It did not take three minutes for the next bit of action to occur. That happened soon after.
Varik: Lieutenant, they are... ::beat:: hailing us. On screen?
Jer-Legrand: Shall I?
He said to Lahl.
Lahl/Ojotha: Responses
Jer-Legrand: This is the Federation Starship, Octavia E. Butler. What is your purpose here?
