((Gator Deck – Quarter Deck, Deck 12, USS Octavia E. Butler))

Ithri had come to the quarter deck to look over some battle strategies and had settled herself to do just that.  Although she had some experience in the military on Andoria, it had been brief.  The training she’d received had allowed her some credits from the Academy and thus sped up her graduation, but in the grand scheme of things, she was still a grounding line on the ice shelf.

But she didn’t want to stay there.  Although she had originally expected a career in the Andorian military, her life had veered significantly, and she found herself a member of Starfleet, specifically the marine branch.  She was not of a mind to simply sit back and let life determine her course, even after her accident, and apathy would not serve her, nor the organisation to which she had pledged herself.  Thus, in the quiet moments, when her duties allowed for a respite in the day, she seized the opportunity to study and train, or to dive deep into the reports and scans that came in from other areas of the sector.

It was during such a moment that a storm struck the Quarter deck.  Ithri sensed it before it even manoeuvred into the officer which Ithri had secluded herself for her study.  When it did, however, her eyes lifted to fall upon the woman she had come to know better since she had taken position as the acting Chief of Tactical and engaged in some training with the woman.  Her countenance reflected the raging storm that had sent her antennae aquiver, and the Andorian lowered the PADD she held.  Several more stacked beside her, waiting in the wings for when she finished with her current read.   Rising, she stood at attention.

Winters: Oh, Lieutenant. I am sorry for barging in. I thought the office was empty.

Sh’shelor: No matter.

With the assertion that the intrusion was forgiven, Winters turned, as if to leave, but she didn’t get very far before she froze, her back to Ithri.

Winters:  Ithri, do you have a moment? Sh’shelor: I do, sir

She had work to do, but though many numbers and bits and pieces of activity in the Gamma Quadrant remained unscoured, she was willing to pause in her perusal and listen to a superior officer.  Facing Ithri once again, Winters dismissed the formality.

Winters: Ranks are off, feel free to speak openly and freely.

Sh’shelor: Understood.

With that, she relaxed and lowered herself into her seat while Winters unceremoniously flopped into one of her own.  Usually, Ithri was on the far side of the desk, facing a superior officer behind it, but the tides were strangely turned.

Winters: I screwed up on multiple accounts today but first and fore most. I just lost my head in the XO’s office with both Promontory and Sherlock. (beat) They must think I am raving mad now.

Perhaps some might have found such behaviour surprising from Winters, but Ithri didn’t.  A fire burned beneath the woman’s green eyes, one that Ithri recognised as something that dwelt within her own breast.

Sh’shelor: What did you do to cause that thinking?

Winters: Response

Sh’shelor: I am aware of his return.

Who wasn’t?  Word travelled quickly on a ship, and with such a dramatic turn of events, information about Kessler and his return from the dead had reached the ears of everyone before the day was half over.

Winters: Response

Sh’shelor: And what did you say to this?

She had a feeling she knew something of what the marine might have said, judging by the expression upon her overly emotive face and the absolute rage that poured off of her.  However the conversation had gone, it had done so in a manner that Winters found appalling.

Winters: Response
