(( Skylink Car 183, Deep Space 14 ))
Zi might not have known exactly what Nadia was after, but she was sure there was a way to get what she wanted -- or at least the next-best thing. After all, the station was full of humans, as well as non-human people who had grown to love human foods. There were bound to be milkshakes.
Nijal: (with a laugh) Well, we can do tea, if nothing else. Look, we're about to pass up into the transition zone!
The Skylink had been spiraling upward and out of the Main Arboretum, and
once they passed through a dark section of hull, Zi was fairly sure she
remembered that they were about to come out into the full view of the
solar sails.
N.Forsyth: Whoa, are those solar sails, yes?
Nijal: They are! They're larger by an order of magnitude or three than those that old Bajoran solar sail ships would've had, though.
Still, the general construction was very similar, the thought being that it was an appropriate tribute not only to the Bajoran astronauts who had first discovered the wormhole, but also the officer and his son -- the famous Captain Sisko and the writer Jake Sisko -- who had rediscovered the route.
N.Forsyth: They’re so pretty, especially the way the gold shines in the light.
Nijal: They're one of the major draws of the station, for sure.
And the station designers had known it, which was why everything above the primary promenade had windows facing toward the sails, the better to appreciate the architectural marvel.
N.Forsyth: Response
Nijal: Oh, yep, that's it.
There was a cluster of half a dozen shops and stalls that served the solar sail observation domes and platforms directly, though even that half dozen were often dwarfed in the soaring spaces that were meant to give the impression that one was actually in space with the sails.
They made their way over, bought their drinks, and settled down to keep an eye on the heavens.
Nijal: Did one of them have what you wanted?
Zi had opted for a kind of algal infusion from Betazed she'd learned to like, since it was something like the fish juice enjoyed by the majority of Cardassians but was, to Zi, sweeter and lighter.
N.Forsyth: Response
Nijal: Oh, good. (beat; a smile) And now I get to ask you more questions, too.
To her credit, Nadia didn't seem too discomfited by that -- which was exactly why Zi tried to have a little fun first.
N.Forsyth: Response
Nijal: Actually, I want to know what you want. You're a helm officer now, and even though Regina is your first assignment, do you have any thoughts about what might be next? Or what you want after your first, second, third promotions...?
N.Forsyth: Response
