((8 Forward, The Writer’s Room, U.S.S. Octavia E. Butler))
With shore leave in full swing, most officers took at least some time to relax. Although Nesre still saw patients, all the counselling staff had more wiggle room than usual. Since she had some time, she made her way to the Writer Room, the popular lounge aboard the ship. There, she found herself seated next to a woman who was so new to the ship, she’d come during the middle of the last mission they had just finished. This afforded a great opportunity to get to know her.
Salo: Well, how are you settling in?
Lahl: So far so good, I think. I’ve only shot one superior officer with a phaser. ::immediately face palming as she said that, the drink must’ve acted ridiculously fast on her::
Ah, yes, Nesre had heard about that. Lifting her drink to her lips, she murmured before she took a sip.
Salo: So you’re the one.
Lahl: I mean, Kessler told me to! He was being attacked by a shadow creature.
Jack had told her and Nesre nodded. During the conversation, who had done it hadn’t come up, but Nesre imagined it was more traumatising for Kimonzi than the man she shot. This wasn’t a counselling session though. Was it? Either way, she couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
Salo: Well, that’s certainly one way to start your career.
Lahl: You know, you’re the second person who found that amusing. Lieutenant Herrick brought it up when we were fixing the transporters.
Salo: If you know Jack, then yes, it’s amusing. But I wouldn’t worry about it. If he told you to do it, then you did the right thing.
After all, everyone had all sorts of crazy hallucinations, and perhaps she had done him a service. Besides, it was only a stun.
Lahl: Response
Salo: It was certainly a way to introduce yourself to those on the Butler, wasn’t it ?
Hopefully, if the Trill couldn’t laugh at it now, she’d be able to some time in the future.
Salo: Does it bother you that you shot him?
Lahl: Response
Salo: I imagine there will be all sorts of things that happen. Starfleet does try to prepare their cadets as best as possible.
But it wasn’t always the same. Going into a situation that was merely a holodeck simulation was far different than living out something that was real and had lasting consequences. That was why Starfleet dedicated so much into the counsellors that served on ships and bases.
