((Captain’s Ready Room, Deck 1))

Nilsen: Captain, if I was to say that I’ve identified a major operational need that affects the running of this ship, would you give me broad authorisation to deal with said need and rectify it before our next mission?

Lhandon had a smirk, he was up to something.

Rouiancet: Response

Nilsen: Come with me

He gestured with his hand for her to follow and soon they found themselves on Deep Space 14.

((Souv-lucky Day, Promenade, Deep Space 14, in orbit of New Bajor))

He was leading Rouiancet through the promenade of Deep Space 14 at warp 9, taking the most humongous strides through the crowd. He could see over most humanoids so has one eye on his captain and one on his destination

Rouiancet: Response

Nilsen: Yeah, it’s simple Ro, Ops concerns itself with the people on the ship just as much as the operations of the ship. You are the major operational need. You’ve not had a break since we arrived here, and we never got to finish our conversation on the Oumuamua because we got so rudely interrupted by an exploding mission pod. Come on, I’ve been meaning to try this place out.

This place he had wanted to try out was not exactly a place. Souv-lucky Day was more like someone had taken a large shuttle, gutted out all the flying parts and converted it into the 25th-century version of a food truck, then plonked it unceremoniously in the middle of DS14. This food shuttle served Greek food, such gyros, souvlaki, and moussaka. It had quickly earned a reputation for the authenticity of its dishes, and Nilsen was excited to give it a try.

Rouiancet: Response

After they had gotten their food, Lhandon started to get to the real part of the conversation, while also eating.

Nilsen: So I never said…Oh my god this is so good.

He took another bite and ate that before getting to the point he wanted to make.

Nilsen: What I meant to say is thanks for the pickup from the mine, that’s twice now you got me back home. I don’t plan on making this a habit, yeah?

He had said that lightly, but there was significant meaning behind it. Sometimes these things emerged in conversations. Once, she and Brezenski had dragged his unconscious body back from the liminal space of Alpha Brenkelvi II, where the ancient Bajorans resided after their ascension to a higher form of life. The second instance had been more recent, in the King's Path mine, where he had been taken captive as a slave.

Rouiancet: Response

Nilsen's professional relationship with his captain hadn't been a traditional one. He had felt that he had a good relationship with his former captain, Commodore V’Airu, and he had wanted to repeat that here.

Nilsen: Eh, it’s all good. I don’t remember much after the broadcast but some good stuff came out of it. It’s early days but…I’ve been working with Lt Martinson and Ensign Taggart, and I don’t know why, but purple feels right.

Purple was the colour of diplomacy and the diplomatic core.

Rouiancet: Response

Nilsen: But, I’m boring, and nothing dramatic has happened to me since the last mission…which is good I think ::laughs:: How you doing now cap? Is the big chair comfy?

Rouiancet: Response
