((Main Engineering, Deck 11, USS Octavia E. Butler))

Paradi: Lieutenant Kessler?

Josh’s eyes moved from the swirl of plasma in the cores and rested them on the new voice.

Herrick: (startled) Oh… hi. Just lost my thoughts. oO Did he say Kessler? Oo

He had heard the Tactical officer had come aboard, but everything seemed hush hush about the man. The engineer played a mental reel back, trying to remember if the two had ever interacted — he remembered him from when he was getting footage for Kel and Corelli’s farewell video but that was it. He was again lost in his thoughts before the man spoke up again.

Paradi: Is something bothering you, sir?

Herrick: oO A lot… but priorities Oo Have you noticed anything strange with the computer lately?

Paradi: Um, as a matter of fact yes.....

The cheng recognized the man as one of the transporter officers, only because he’d been on a recent PADD that Josh received.

Herrick: You’re ::eyes looking up as he tried to recollect the details:: Paradi? The one involved with the inverted crewmember incident?

The man opposite was obviously embarrassed, shuffling his feet.

Paradi: Yes, that was me. But Lieutenant Br'desh and Crewman Watanabi are both perfectly fine!

Herrick: (nodding) That’s good at least. You can’t find the root cause?

The new Sagan-class interfaces had taken a bit of acclimating to, but Josh doubted that they were that far of a departure for someone to mix up and rotate people. And, with what happened to him, he’d rule out operator error for now.

Paradi: I can't find any issues within the transporter matrix, and the logs are clean.

Herrick: Hrmm… Computer, does any part of transporter system run through deck 15?

Computer: Affirmative.

Herrick: ::eyebrow raised:: Can you elaborate?

Computer: Transporter systems pass through deck 15 to reach the ventral transporter emitter. When there is a desire to transport something between the inside of the ship and the…

Herrick: Thank you computer, that’s sufficient. (looking to Paradi) So… maybe your incident and mine are connected.

Paradi: Response

Herrick: Well… I was investigating a power anomaly apparently.

Paradi: Response

Herrick: Well, to be honest, I don’t exactly recall much aside from me writing it in my duty log. There was an explosion, and I was automatically transported to Sickbay. The conduit was repaired while I was recovering, and the anomaly hadn’t cropped up again. (beat) When did the transporter malfunction occur?

Paradi: Response

Herrick: The same time… I don’t know about you, but I don’t believe in coincidences. Why don’t we take a second look at that junction. I promised the doctor I wouldn’t go wandering about investigating without a chaperone.

Paradi: Response

OOC: I feel like I’ve finally made it out the other side; thanks for bearing with me. Here’s to no kidney stones in the 25th century.
