((Main Engineering Lower Level, Deck 11, USS Octavia E Butler))

Kimonzi had come into Engineering to meet her new ensign, when her XO and CO had walked into Engineering as well. She turned to them when Lhandon decided he was going to make it her problem.

Nilsen: I’m surprised you’ve hidden the mallet away, Lahl. Is this a new management style for you? Don’t tell me Alex has softened you.

She opened her mouth to give him a piece of her mind, but before she could, Lhandon turned toward her new ensign.

Nilsen: Hello there, Ensign. I’m Lieutenant Commander Lhandon Nilsen. This is our commanding officer, Captain Lia Rouiancet. Welcome aboard.

Boran: It's great to meet you, sir. I'm Ensing Boran Jaz, new Engineering Officer and I look forward to working with you all!

Lahl turned and looked up at the new ensign. She was excited to have another engineer back on the crew after Commander Peters’s leave of absence.

Lahl: Well, we’re glad you’re here.

Rouiancet: Response

Nilsen: I’m sorry we weren’t able to meet you in the transporter room when you arrived, but I’m glad to see you’ve settled in. How are you finding engineering so far?

Boran: Honestly, sir? Loss of words. I'm having a great time nerding out and brainstorming the many ways I can be of use.

Lahl: Oh trust me, there’s plenty of places that we can use you. I’ve already started thinking of where you can get to work.

Kimonzi was already thinking of where she could put the new engineer. There were some holes due to transfers so they were going to need all hands on deck.

Rouiancet: Response

Nilsen: We’re far from DS14 and the wormhole, so we try to make this a good place to be. What’s your specialisation?

Boran: Power and propulsion engineering, Commander. But if I'm being honest, I'm enchanted by all things engineering.

Lahl was already looking forward to this new Engineer’s work.

Boran: Growing up, I used to take apart anything I could get my hands on just to figure out how it worked. Sometimes I even managed to put it back together afterwards.

Kimonzi laughed, think of her own childhood. So many of her parents’ devices hadn’t worked the same after Kimonzi had gotten her hands on them.

Lahl: Sounds very familiar.

Nilsen/Rouiancet: Response

Boran: Most of the time, anyway.

Lahl: Same.

The Nedan family’s viewerscreen still had static to this day. Kimonzi had offered to fix it again, but her father hadn’t fully forgiven her about it.

Nilsen/Rouiancet: Response

Boran: I like power systems because they're the heartbeat of a ship. No power means no engines, no shields, no sensors... no anything. But honestly, if something breaks, I want to know how to fix it. Also, fair warning, if I disappear for a few hours, there's a decent chance I got distracted exploring a Jeffries tube somewhere.

Lahl: I will keep that in mind. As long as you don’t get stuck.

She was still dealing with the Three Amigos, even if Moeller was doing better.

Nilsen/Rouiancet: Response

Boran: So what's Butler engineering's biggest headache these days? Every ship has one.

Kimonzi scratched at her spots as she thought about it. There were plenty of things, but then she remembered her biggest fear.

Lahl: Well, the computers keep getting taken over.

Nilsen/Rouiancet: Response

She looked at Lhandon and Captain Rouiancet sheepishly. She didn’t want to get too in the weeds about it.

Lahl: I’ve been trying whenever I can to improve the computer security, but sometimes it gets away from me.

Boran/Nilsen/Rouiancet: Response

Kimonzi once again scratched at her spots.

Lahl: Besides the computer, we’re also always trying to improve the power efficiency on the Octavia E. Butler

Boran/Nilsen/Rouiancet: Response

Lahl: Absolutely, that sounds like a great idea.

Boran/Nilsen/Rouiancet: Response
