The new and fascinating neuropsychic discoveries just would not stop coming to Rivka out here on the frontier. Case in point, two shipmates had apparently become mentally entwined. While there were elevated beta waves between them, the instruments at her disposal couldn’t detect anything more physically, they would need the labs on the ship.

But the Bolian was a true scientist and asked them not to transport them back, in case the transporter undid the entanglement (as, apparently, beaming down had instigated the same). So Rivka called for a shuttle.

Brzezinski: I got us a shuttle, it should be here real quick.

She played with the settings of her neuro-sensors and started another pass.

Loq: One thing to look for, which I don't think you can scan for here, is quantum entanglement. My working theory—

Yes! Quantum entanglement was a very likely suspect, and while Rivka always had scanners with her, she usually limited herself to neuromonitors and the like. But the Butler would have the quantum-grade scanning equipment in one of the other labs.

Yinn: Sorry. I was developing a theory about the Alpha Brenkelvi aliens. Our brains are neurons connected by electrical impulses. I believe their brains are tachyons connected by quantum entanglement. I think the Antari may use a similar entanglement, which the leaves somehow make possible. So I think my... our brains are entangled on a quantum level. I don't really know how that's possible, but it should at least be easy enough to detect in the lab.

oO Oh boy, I’m going to need to learn more about physics. Oo While Rivka was a practicing scientist with a basic knowledge of general principles, she really was a specialist and had elected to learn everything about the nervous system, rather than to learn a little bit about everything. oO Let the generalist become the Jack of all trades and the Master of none… but I suppose this time I’ll have to become at least a Jack of some physics… Neurophysics… it had an intriguing ring about it Oo

Fer'at: Then we should return with all haste.  A shuttle is unnecessary, we can transport.

The Vulcan was doing his judgmental stare again and Rivka tried not to take too much pleasure in correcting him.

Brzezinski: No, the subject(s) specifically requested no transportation—least it aggravate or undo their entanglement. (turning to the two officers) Right?

Loq: To be honest, I would rather have more time to study... myself. And I worry what effect disentangling us would have on me. Us.

Fer'at: It seems that if your minds are used to being single, the entanglement would pose a bigger problem than the separation.

Unfortunately, the Vulcan had a fair point. If the two officers could be untangled now, but not later, then doing so quickly—despite the loss of opportunities to investigate a new phenomenon—would need to take precedence.

Brzezinski: (resigned) All the more reason to act quickly.

Loq-Yinn: responses

She craned her neck to the sky, hoping to catch a glimpse of the shuttle, but the Vulcan’s senses picked up something before she could.

Fer’at: I do believe that is our shuttle now.

The shuttle closed the distance between the Vulcan’s perceptions and the rest of them and began a landing process in an open area just beyond the festival.

Rivka turned to the discombobulated officers. They didn’t look too worse for the wear.

Brzezinski: Ready to go?

Loq-Yinn: responses

Fer’at: Lieutenant Brzezinski, if you can assist Ensign Yinn, I will assist Ensign Loq.  The shuttle can not land right here, but we will need to meet them just outside the town.

oO Yinn—that was her name! Oo

Rivka nodded and moved to scoop up under the frail-looking blue scientist as the Vulcan assisted the bulky Klingon.

Brzezinski: Up you go. That’s it, one foot in front of the other.

Loq-Yinn: responses

The crowd was not making their journey easy and they still had some ways to go.

Brzezinski: Anything we can do to make a hole in this crowd?

Rivka wasn’t carrying a phaser, which was probably for the best. Firing a low-grade beam into a peaceful, if slow-moving, crowd would likely be frowned upon.

Loq/Yinn/Fer'at: responses

Brzezinski: Thank you, that should do!

They made their way through the remnants of the various festival-goers.

Loq/Yinn/Fer'at: responses

Brzezinski: (reading the side of the shuttle) Imago. Huh. Looks fast, at least.

Loq/Yinn/Fer'at: responses
