((Ward 31-B, Third Floor, L’Kar General Hospital, Garasi District, Argratha Capital City, Argrathi V))
With sample in hand, safely, Ragh was finally able to do get to work on coming up with a cure, antidote, or something.
Richards: So how long until we’ve got something?
Ragh: I already had a good bit of work going, so with some luck maybe a few hours?
Nilsen: Good, good.
Richards: Right, good.
Nilsen: I’m going to make sure that our newest guest is at least being cared for. If you need anything, just comms me. And I’ve got to do my job and make sure everyone here is cool with us, and alleviate any concerns and whatnot. Anton, shout if you hear anything about our other parties, especially the shuttle. I want us at least looking slightly cohesive before the OEB returns.
Richards: You got it, Sir.
Ragh: I'll keep you posted on our progress.
With that, Ragh gave him a nod and got to work.
((A few hours later))
The saliva sample has proven to be priceless and worth the risk. With a bit of trial and error, Ragh had been successful in deleting the genetic component of Ketra Omni and, in theory, the potential trigger for the rage through contamination. Computer testing was putting it at 98% effective. That would have to be good enough.
Nilsen: So, I chatted with the staff and let them know what we were doing. Our friend is being monitored, and he’s still sedated, so we should be good. Word of what we are doing has started to get out, and we’ll likely get the press soon. I’ll handle them. I haven’t had any word about the shuttle, except for some rumours on their social media, so you just focus on your work. How’s it looking?
Ragh turned to the First Officer, who had been working overtime it seemed, to get in the good graces of the staff. The fact the press was aware of what was going on was less good.
Richards: Well it’s going… it appears as though they is working on keeping people calm, while the media appears to be trying to do the opposite for the most part.
Ragh: I may have something, Sir. As we knew, Ketra Omni affected the Agrathi and then they were able to transmit the rage to other species through bodily fluids. This rage was worse as we know. The key issue was first figuring out what caused the initial rage, and secondly but more importantly, why was it able to be transferred.
Ragh smiled, he was very keen to share his breakthrough.
Ragh: I think, and I only say think because it's not tested yet, I've been able to come up with a way to counteract the initial trigger of Ketra Omni that happens within the Argrathi genome.
Nilsen: That’s good news?
Richards: Sounds like it.
Ragh: If it works, it's great news. We still need a live test, Agrathi approval, Starfleet approval.. but this could be it.
Ragh kind of drifted off in thought, as he went over a mental checklist in his head.
Richards: Oh. So…
Nilsen: So?
Ragh: We have a test subject here, if they'll allow.
Richards: Well if that’s the case, it makes our job a bit easier I suppose.
Nilsen: And after we had done this, the rest of the mission should be quiet. We just need to get in contact with the other teams, find out what happened to the shuttle, and try to hold off the more curious members of the press until we have something set in stone to report all before the OEB gets back.
Ragh: Oh, just all that?
He said it jokingly, but Ragh knew they still had a big hurdle despite this potential good news.
Speaking of the news.. Starfleet was the current subject of the broadcast and not in a flattering light.
Richards: I think we’ve been made. Knowing these guys they are going to say we brought the sickness with us.
The news report played on:
Vane: We have reports, unconfirmed, because the 'Health Ministry' wants to keep you sedated... that these... these explorers didn't just land here. They didn't just 'arrive.' They brought the rage, the drugs in their cargo holds! They’re not here to help our sick; they’re here to study how we break! They want to turn Argrathi into a petri dish for their 'Utopian' experiments!
Nilsen: I need a press officer!
Ragh: That's.. not good. Maybe we should call Telek. Despite his demeanor I believe he's on our side. Also I need to talk to him about my progress anyways.
Ragh was sure things were about to turn into a full on circus with them as the starring act. He hoped to be at least prepared for it.
Nilsen/Richards: Response
Ragh: This puts us on a bit of time crunch. I think it'd be prudent to have any sort of.. testing, done before the media finds us.
Nilsen/Richards: Response
