(( Serala’s Quarters 03-204, Deck 3, USS Atlantis, in orbit of DS26, Paldor system, Larokon space, Par’tha Expanse ))

{{ Time Index: Day 15 of Shore Leave }}

She hadn’t gotten around to requesting the new quarters. Maybe now that they were at the station. She had to admit that even with Little Bean here, these quarters no longer felt like home. There had been a time when she had really loved them. Even before Stevok. But now, it just felt empty. She had just put Bean down for her nap, fresh diapers and fed. She was about to return to the table and continue working when the door chimed.

Serala: Plhere (( Enter ))

The door slid open and the Captain entered and looked around briefly, his eyes landing on the crib and a smile appeared on his face. Fortunately, the chime had not woken her. She also noted the faint scent of his dog lingering on him and was grateful he hadn’t brought it with him. She didn’t hate dogs, but her female Romulan sense of smell was constantly offended by them.

Thoran: Apologies I have not offered my congratulations sooner.

He handed her a package and she raised an inquisitive eyebrow at him as she took it. Despite herself, a small smile creased her face.

Thoran: It is a mobile. They are supposed to help provide visual stimulation for young children.

Serala: Khlinae arhem… uh, sorry. Thank you.

She was disturbed that her tendency to slip into Romulan was starting to reassert itself. It usually only happened when she was emotional, but she thought she had gotten control of it.

Thoran: You are most welcome. There is a matter I hope to discuss with you, if I am not interrupting?

Again, her eyebrow rose in inquiry. She wasn’t really even aware that she was doing it. It was a trait she had gotten from her bond with Stevok, and apparently it hadn’t left just because that bond was now severed forever.

Serala: Oh? Please, have a seat. What’s on your mind, sir?

She gestured to a chair at the table as she herself moved over to her seat.

Thoran: As I am sure you are aware, with Commander Williams’ rather rapid reassignment, the position of First Officer is currently vacant. I have been mulling over candidates from the senior staff, and after much thought, I would like to offer you the position.

Serala couldn’t remember a time when she had been so thoroughly speechless. Her jaw dropped in a wide-open gape. Thoughts even eluded her for a moment, but they returned faster than her ability to speak.

oO Me? What about Toryn? Can I do this with a new baby? Am I still going to be doing Strategic Operations? Sweet Elements, how could I say no? What is Mother going to say? What would she say if I said no? What will she say if I say yes? STOP! Say something! Oo

Serala: Uh...I...uh….um... oh, my….umm...What about?....uh….

She must really seem like an idiot right about now. Probably not the best trait for a First Officer.

Thoran: Response

Serala: Au’e, daie! Yes! Most definitely yes!

I will figure out the logistics later. I probably should talk to Toryn about this though. I hope he won’t take this too hard.

Thoran: Response

She forced herself to calm down. Her exuberance was running the risk of waking T’Saara. Besides, the Captain would need someone who could keep her cool.

Serala: Yes. I understand. I do wonder how Commander Raga is going to take this, but we are good friends, so I am sure he will be happy for me at the very least.

Thoran: Response

Serala: So, when would this become official?

Thoran: Response
