(( This takes place before Serala visits Captain Brell and Raga, respectively ))

Serala: Excuse me, Doctor. I am Lieutenant JG Serala, Security and Tactical. I am here for my annual physical. Also, I need to get the medical exam required by regulations prior to marrying outside one’s own species. I am planning to get married.

Kecskemeti: A wide grin parted his lips :: I'm Doctor Kecskemeti.  Congratulations, Lieutenant. That is the best news I have heard all day. Well we can do that for you without any difficulty. May I ask what is your fiance's species?

Serala: Vulcan-Betazoid. Specifically, three-quarters Vulcan, one-quarter Betazoid. You will likely find during your exam that there is some unusual neural activity in my parietal lobe and prefrontal cortex. My fiancè was experiencing :: a sudden tugging in her mind warned her that Stevok didn’t want this discussed, as if sensing his embarrassment at the subject :: a medical problem, and I was there to help. An unexpected, but not unpleasant, side-effect is that we are now permanently bonded to each other.

Kecskemeti: :: Nodded understanding :: My late wife was Vulcan so I understand your situation better than you realize, though permanently bonded...

Serala: Yes, but Vulcans are sensitive about that. Please don’t mention it to anyone.

Kecskemeti: :: Shook his head :: What is said here, Lieutenant remains here, patient-doctor confidentiality. Besides, I just arrived aboard, I have no one to tell anything too. Now, we can begin the physical by having you lie down on the bed and we will start the scan.

Serala: Of course, and thank you Doctor.

:: She obediently lay back on the biobed and allowed him to conduct his examinations. She was apprehensive about having him examining her, but whenever her level of discomfort got too high, Stevok would send a wave of reassurance to her. ::

Kecskemeti: Lieutenant, I wish I had more patients like you. As you suspected, you do have elevated neural activity as a result of the bonding. Not a significant issue now but if you experience headaches, dizziness, blackouts, you come here pronto. Otherwise,  you get a clean bill of health.

Serala: Thank you, Doctor. And about the recommendation for Doctor Cattan?

Kecskemeti: There are no complications on the genetic level between you and your fiance. I will gladly approve the interspecies marriage per regulations and forward it to Doctor Cattan. That, as far as you should be concerned, is just a formality.

:: She couldn’t contain the giggle that burbled up from inside her at his confirmation of his approval recommendation. ::

Serala: Oh, thank you Doctor! Thank you very much! :: Despite the fact that she hardly knew this man, she was just so excited she couldn’t contain herself, and reached out and grabbed him in a bear hug, forgetting that she was so much stronger than humans. ::

Kecskemti: Response

Serala: Sorry, Doctor. :: She released him hoping she hadn’t hurt him too badly. :: Thank you again.

:: With that, she rushed out of sickbay, giddy as a schoolgirl. ::

oO Now, just two more conversations. And one of them I am dreading with all my life. Oo
