Raga: Commander. We've just entered communications range with the Athena. Shall I hail her?

::He noticed his fellow Ensign similarly glance at their commander.::

Brell: Ensign Dermont, how much longer do we need to remain in slipstream?

::He gave a quick glance down to double check the course of the runabout. It was the same as it had been for weeks and operating perfectly. Almost agonizingly so after such a long journey.::

Dermont:  One hour and twenty-six minutes, sir.

Brell: I think we will hold off on hailing them until we drop back into normal space.

Raga: Commander. There wasn't much of a briefing prior to getting our assignments. What's the Athena's mission in the Gamma quadrant currently?

Brell: No, I do not unfortunately, operating so far away from Federation space updates come in bursts.

:: That was something Toryn hadn't learned at the Academy, that the expanse of deep space could cause issues with communications. One took things for granted when being well within the confines of the Federation's comm network. On the fringe it had to be spotty once he stopped to consider it. ::

Brell: Did either of you have time to sample the Bolian recipes I programed into the replicator? The fried Shimmershells sandwich with caro sauce is a best seller at the deli my uncle runs on DS6.

::There was a brief sideways glance to Dermont to see his classmate's reaction, and seeing the grin he wondered if the engineer had already tasted said cuisine.::

Raga: Al-Leyan tastebuds leave something to be desired when it comes to the cuisine of other races. Too bland and tasteless. Although I did take a trip during my second year of the Academy to New Orleans with some fellow cadets. Cajun food....I was surprised to find something on Earth I could actually taste. ::Break:: I will give them a try at least.

::This made the Bolian grin, which he was grateful for. The last thing he needed after his performance during the finals was to offend his new CO. At that thought he began to ponder on what the Bolian might think of him based on his results.::

Raga: I would extend the offer to try some Al-Leyan dishes I could program into the replicators...but I learned quickly at the Academy that most don't have a taste for my people's food. Too spicy, or too sweet. So I've been told. Comes from living on a world with bland flora and fauna.

Brell: I can empathize there, and I may just have to sample something Al-Leyan spicy one of these days. Something from the seafood offerings most likely.

Dermont:  Sir!  I spent eleven years runnin' ore for Balarus.  I've been out to DS6 plenty o' times!  And I might add, I've been eating Bolian cuisine fer so long, I've just about given up eatin' anything else.

Brell:  Response

:There was the reason for his peers excited expression earlier. He was already well acquainted with Bolian food.::

Raga: Commander, permission to hit up the galley?

Brell: Of course Ensign. First Lieutenant Logan is back there right now, I’m sure he would not mind the company. I will make a shipwide announcement when we drop out of slipstream.

Raga: oO Oh thank the Branch. I didn't realize I was this famished. Oo Thank you sir.

::Toryn rose from his seat and excused himself, heading back through the transporter and into the medical bay where he saw two of his superior officers seemingly engrossed in a tense conversation. He had done his best to keep himself distracted most of the trip. The downside of having heightened senses, specifically hearing when on board a small vessel such as this was you tended to hear mostly everything. Even things people might prefer to keep private. It didn't help that he was slightly empathic as far as having extra sensory perception. He couldn't sense emotions specifically in others, but he could pick up on the 'aura' of a room or location when he entered it. And as he walked through the Medica::

And as he walked through the Medical module of the runabout he felt as if he were walking through tar. The Ensign gave a brief nod to both officers.::

Raga: Doctor. Lieutenant. oO Just keep walking Toryn. Oo

((Aft Crew Bunks/Mess Area, USS Aceso))

::The doors parted quickly at his approach and he saw the resident marine on board standing near the replicator as it seemingly finished de-materializing whatever had been placed in it. During his third year of the Academy Toryn had been blessed enough to get to spend a couple of weeks observing and partaking in part of the Marine training. It was rather intense and though he only endured a fourth of what they went through he had garnered a great deal of respect for the members of that sub Branch of Security. ::

Logan: Bonan saluton al vi Ensign
(Good greetings to you Ensign)

::Kurt smiled at him and he found himself grinning back. This was one of the reasons why he respected the Marines. They gave it right back. The young Al-Leyan gave a respectful bow and walked up to the older man. ::

::Part of the reason he had managed to be more at ease on this trip was due to Kurt being here.::

Raga: Bonan Saluton al vi ankaŭ Leŭtenanto. Vi el ĉiuj ni devas esti pli ol preta por atingi nian celon.

( Good greetings to you as well, Lieutenant. You out of all of us must be more than ready to get to our destination. )

::It was nice to converse in something other than Federation basic and he always found it so fascinating that his people had adopted the language of another species as one of their own. That grin didn't fade as he walked up to the replicator and tapped at the display. Searching through the files for Bolian dishes.::

Logan: Manĝaĵo vokis vin denove ?
(Has food called to you again ?

Raga: Kiam ne? Mi antaŭeniris preskaŭ ok horojn. Kaj mi diris, ke Shimmershells estas bone provi.

(When doesn't it? I've been up front for almost eight hours. And I've been told Shimmershells are good to try. )

Logan: Shimmershels ? ::Chuckling:: Commander Brell been on at you again

::He glanced sideways at the marine as the replicator whined to life and the requested dish appeared on a plate with proper silverware. He retrieved it and then ordered up an Al-Leyan beverage. A rather robustly sweet, by his people's standards, drink akin to an earth smoothie. Of course, he'd been told that the thing gave anyone not from Luraul a mouthful of cavities from a single sip. It was something he'd yet to confirm with any medical professional.::

Raga: Something like that. He asked if we had tried any Bolian cuisine and I made a comment about how bland most non-Al-Leyan dishes can be. I'm grateful he'd an easy going sort.

::Taking a seat on one of those unbearably uncomfortable stools, he settled in and took a exploratory bite of the Shimmershells. To his delight and surprise it was a rather pleasant taste. It wasn't quite like food from home but it was quite close. With a pleased grin on his face he dug into the dish, finding out just how ravenous his appetite was. In little time at all he had devoured half the plate and hadn't even touched his drink. He looked up to the marine and nodded.::

Raga: Of course. As soon as I'm done I'll be back at my post. Commander Brell said he'd give a ship wide when we're due to come out of slipstream. ::He seemed to recall something and his brow furrowed.:: I'd be mindful of going through the medical area. I got the sense that there's some terse words between the Doctor and the other Lieutenant.

::Barely had he finished the plate and taken more than a sip of his beverage when he heard the ship wide announcement.::

Brell: =/\= We are about to come out of slipstream, at the Athena’s coordinates, everyone is welcome to come up front. =/\=

::With the pep of a veteran soldier he hopped out of the stool and placed his dishes in the replicator, briefly pressing the button to revert them back to their requisite atoms before rushing on up towards the front of the runabout.::

((Cockpit, Medical Runabout USS Aceso))

::Hastily excusing himself past the others he resumed his previous seat in the cockpit of the lithe Arrow class vessel. Glancing to Dermont with a nod as he settled in.::

Pond: response

Brell: It does get rather dull quickly, slipstream that is. Which boggles the mind when thinking about how going so fast should not always impress or be exciting at the least.

Logan: response

Raga: It certainly wasn't quite was I was expecting to do as my first duty assignment. Things, I've found though are never dull when there's at least one marine around. But this ship is too small. ::Break:: When you can hear everything.

Dermont/Lambert: responses

::They dropped out of slipstream velocity into the vast reaches of the Gamma Quadrant along with the grand starship Athena filled their views outside their small craft. It was a sight of awe, particularly for the young Al-Leyan. He always loved seeing starships, especially those built by other species. Even after serving on an Al-Leyan Bird of Prey for a year, it still felt like it belonged to someone else. He felt someone move up behind him and a momentary glance let him see their commander with the same wide eyed wonder that he knew was present on his own face.::

Brell: Now you may hail them Mister Raga.

Raga: Aye, sir. Gladly. Hailing frequency open.

Tel-ar: =/\= response =/\=

Brell: =/\= Commander, this Commander Brell on the incoming medical Runabout USS Aceso. Ready to transferred into Athena’s support craft fleet. I am also sending you if list of officers I need to have them meet me in the the shuttlebay once we have boarded. I’m sending the list over now. If they need to be recalled from away missions, please see to it. =/\=

---Message Ends---

::As the commander concluded the conversation he closed the channel and set about running through system checks of his own. He accessed the sensors and noticed that one of the Athena's shuttles was already in space heading towards the surface of the planet she was orbiting. He also detected multiple space superiority craft, lithe fighters seemingly escorting it. That caught his attention and he sat up a little straighter, his training and instincts kicking in. Something was happening, something serious.::

Brell: Take us in nice and easy.

Dermont: response

Raga: Commander, we're being hailed by the shuttlecraft that just left the Athena. Channel open.

Williams: =/\= This is Lieutenant Commander Williams of the USS Athena. Please identify yourself and explain your reasons for being here. =/\=

::Toryn kept his eyes glued to the console in front of him, save for a brief glance to the small viewscreen to see whom it was that had hailed them.::

Brell: =/\= Commander Williams, This is Commander Brell, aboard the Medical runabout Aceso. =/\=

Williams: =/\= Commander Brell. What a surprise. What brings you all the way to the gamma quadrant? Don’t tell me you took a wrong turn at

DS9…=/\=

Brell: ::Chuckling at William's joke.:: =/\= My apologies for dropping in on you like this but Starfleet had this vessel marked for transfer to the Athena. We were under the impression word of our going through the wormhole would have reached you, before we did. =/\=

::Things appeared not to be too tense for them to be so jovial, or perhaps it was that jesting he'd heard about being done under moments of duress to lighten the tension.::

Williams: =/\= No, your presence here caught us by surprise. We did have a few problems with our systems when we left though. =/\=

Brell: =/\= Communications this trip from both Starfleet and Athena seemed only seem to come in bursts. It’s possible the runabouts transceiver can't quite compensate for the slipstream the way larger starships can. Some orders we just to Commander Tel-ar on Athena should be arriving to you shortly. I’m afraid you and some of your away team may need to return as soon as you are able. =/\=

Williams: =/\= I see…. Well, I guess that means we will abort our descent for now and see what those orders are…. Mr Merlin.. come about, time to head back to the Athena and see what this is all about…=/\=

Brell: =/\= I shall see you shortly then. =/\=

::The comm channel closed and there was a sigh from the Bolian. This close, to him it might have been a shout and he winced a bit, head canting slightly but focused still on his job.::

Raga: They have escort fighters and marines aboard there shuttle. It would seem we've arrived unannounced in the middle of something...interesting.

Brell: This will be interesting, of that I have no doubt.

::He wasn't sure if that made him feel better, or more on guard. It was times like this that he wished his telepathic abilities extended beyond his own species.::

Lambert/Dermont: responses

Raga: They mentioned problems with their systems. I guess you won't have to worry about being idle, eh Dermont?

::Toryn wasn't yet confident that he'd earned the right to refer to his fellow Ensign by his first name yet. At least not until he was sure he'd made up for his mistake in their final.::

Dermont: Response
