JP Cmdr Brell, RAdm Renos - To a ship called Atlantis.

((OOC: This sim takes place after the Aceso has landed in Athena's shuttlebay.))

((Main Shuttlebay, Mid hanger, Deck 16, USS Athena))

::He waited on the mid-deck for the crew members called to arrive. He had given them a bit of time to all gather knowing some had to see to tasks that they were in the middle of. He did not enjoy having to ask officers only wishing to do their duty to leave things unfinished but orders, were orders. It was part of Starfleet life and so was getting transferred. Sometimes it happened without much notice and it was not easy no matter how professional the officer.::

Brell: oO Could not ask for a better group of officers. Oo

::He truly believed that. Those he had worked with for years he trusted with his life. He had worked well with Commander Williams many times for Starfleet Academy. On the way here from DS9, he’d had a chance to start getting to know some of the new ensigns that would be assigned under his command and they had already impressed him. He looked forward to getting to know them, and the five officers joining them on the deck who were currently assigned to Athena. Having taken few minutes to review their personnel files he could see why Starfleet had chosen them for their roles.::

::As the last of the officers arrived he nodded to the group of Starfleet’s finest.::

Brell: Greetings, I am Commander Brell, some of you know me well, others I look forward to getting to know. I have a message here from starfleet that will do a better job at explaining why I have called you all here today.

::From the PADD in his hand he tapped up the message Renos had given him when they had left the the expanse, sending it to Athena’s ship wide hologrid. The visage of the J’naii, Admiral Renos joined his side. Frozen for the moment until he pressed resume.::

Renos: Commander Brell, effective immediately, you are to take command of the USS Atlantis NCC-74682. You will be assigned a crew uninvolved in the ship’s last mission - with a couple of notable exceptions to follow. You will continue its mission of exploration and building relations in the Par’tha Expanse once the trial of Captain S’Ranna and Commander Udro is concluded. Your senior team will include Commander Williams, who will be your first officer. Commander Tel-Ar is the Chief Tactical Officer, Lieutenant Danara the chief of security. There are a few familiar faces joining you including, Lieutenant Lambert a science officer, Dr Pond is your chief medical officer with Lieutenant Cattan as the chief of nursing. Captain McKnight is the marine CO and Mr Logan will be making a switch back to his roots, taking the role of marine officer at the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Last but by no means least, Commander Riel is your intelligence officer. They’re all great officers, I know they will serve you well and do us all proud.

::As the words came from the hologram recording of his friend’s mouth he could not help but recall that day.::

((Flashback - Just over a week ago - Admiral Renos’ Office, Deck 2, USS Blackwell))

::The Bolian was in a mild state of shock. Renos had just given him some of the most amazing news of his career. He wanted to jump up and grab nir to deliver a Bolian sized bear hug. He kept his composure however, his mind busy racing with the names had had just be given. His senior officers to crew his ship. His heart went out to S’ranna and Udro as the two had done their best to his reckoning. Their decisions did have consequences they did not predict at the time and he held hope they would be exonerated in due time.::   

::Renos knew that Brell would be the perfect commanding officer for the Atlantis. They had worked together for years and had become more than just colleagues. Ne was going to miss him, Lyldra and Hars. Ne was going to miss the twins and that was to say nothing of Asana’s feelings. Renu and Lianu were nir baby’s best friends, there weren’t many other children aboard the ship of similar age. The Bolian family would be missed greatly but ne had to keep reminding nemself that they would still be here in the Par’tha Expanse. Before long ne would be back at the station and ne would get to see them periodically. Change was always difficult, indeed it was one of very few constants you could count on. Life went on and this was a move that would ultimately benefit everyone. As ne gazed at nir friend sitting across the desk from nem, it occurred to nem this was the last time they would get to talk with one another for a while.::

Renos: I’m glad you were able to drop by. I wasn’t sure you would have the chance after receiving those orders. Since you are here, let me say, congratulations. I’m so proud and happy for you.

::Of course, ne had already been through this routine once before, when Brell was temporarily given command of the Atlantis. In the end he had stepped up so well and impressed nem so much ne really had felt strongly about making it permanent. Ne was sure S’Ranna and Udro would be exonerated in time but for now, the legal battle meant they weren’t able to serve in any capacity and it was their very lives they were fighting for.::

Brell: I am honored sir. I mean I am for once in my life at a loss for words.

Renos: There’s a first time for everything apparently. ::Grinning at nir friend at the end::

::Both joined in a deep laughter. They’d always had a good rapport and this was how ne had originally hoped to convey Brell’s orders to him. Perhaps, if Brell and his family were open to the idea, they would keep in touch through subspace communications and perhaps holoconferencing. It could be a good way for the adults and children to get together in some fashion so they didn’t have to lose that connection that had become so special to each of them. Ne knew that the endlessly welcoming Bolians would welcome the crew into their family every bit as much as they had done with nem. As ne had often remarked, they had showed nem more kindness and acceptance, been more of a family to nem than nir own parents had been. Renos would be forever grateful for it.::

Brell: In all seriousness Admiral, I am humbled by your trust in me. Your wisdom has helped me grow as an officer, a parent and I have been fortunate that my family has found such a friend in you. You will always have a seat at our table whenever you are near enough to possibly fill. And when not we will keep you with us in spirit.

::Brell meant every word of it. When he had first met Renos the J’naii had been Lyldra’s friend, and captain. Brell was simply one of her husbands who had transferred abroad to follow her. When he joined the Darwin’s senior staff that had changed slowly at first but over time he came to see Renos as a friend and mentor. He would miss serving with nem often very much, but would still be serving under nir as ne was the Admiral in command of the Expanse::

((End Flashback))

::The memory brought a smile to his as the message ended and the raven haired J’naii vanished. He knew there were a few more names to mention that had not been known yet at the time of that recording and he paused but for a moment before continuing.::

Brell: In addition Ensign Toryn Raga will be joining Lieutenant Danara’s security department, while Ensign Valin Dermont will be joining us as our Engineer. We will depart for the journey back to Federation space and then to the Par’tha expanse, as soon as the USS Victory can join us here to ferry us to our new home.

::He looked around at their faces seeing surprise on many. He expected that and wanted to make things as easy on them as possible.::

Brell: We have a few hours, I believe until Victory will arrive so please see to your affairs while you can. We will have plenty of time to get to know one another on the trip and once aboard Atlantis.

::He shifted slightly wanting to show everyone he was not unaware of how shocked they could be from the suddenness of their transfers. He had been in this place himself settled in on the USS Thunder along with the Embassy on Durionis II, when his wife Lyldra decided to accept a starfleet commission and jet off on the Darwin. Her being pregnant with twins at the time he filed for transfer only a few months later. It was jarring to him then, and it had been by choice.::

Brell: ::Still addressing the group.::  If you end up needing more time, it would be permissible. The sooner we disembark the sooner we will arrive … but I understand this is not an easy, or expected event. I do expect everyone to do their best as officers to accept that Athena will go on strong without us, we can honor your time here by doing well in our next assignment, using the skills you have gained under Captain Faranfey to further the noble goals of the Federation and Starfleet.

::They would be a great crew and have many adventures together soon. Once they got through with another few slipstream journeys that was.::  

Brell: Everyone is dismissed, to see to whatever you may need to. If anyone has any questions for me, I will be making use of one of your lounges while we wait.
