to Athena - IC
(( Bridge, Deck 1, USS Athena ))

:: She stood up, and looked around the bridge, most of them weren't aware of why they were moving further into the quadrant instead of heading back for repairs. But a ship wasn't always able to head back for repairs when it got injured, something she knew from her time in the future, and something they'd more likely find out if they didn't go after the answers the Athena was designated to search for. ::

Faranfey: Attention everyone, I know we still have a lot of work, and that last mission shook us up. But we only saw the hand of an enemy that is dedicated to bringing in a worse evil. Right now our mission is to follow the coordinates that we uncovered during our last mission, to see if we can get to a Yeltan treasure before our rivals. If we can, we can keep it out of their hands and make it that much harder for their end goals.

Tonston: What do you need from us?  Just name it.

Anyone: Response

Faranfey: I need our tactical and intelligence departments to work together. Any information we have on planets between here and the Raytas sector should be disclosed. Our engineering department has been working around the clock to make sure we are in working order, let's try to avoid another surprise.

Tel-ar: As you wish captain. :: The man spoke in the supposedly natural monotone he seemed to always speak in. :: However, I would assume the enemy has other plans.

:: The man's statement wasn't necessary, enemies usually had other plans, that's why it was important to thwart them whenever possible. She felt it was crucial that they keep their eyes alert when traveling through uncharted or contested space, especially when they were by themselves. While they wouldn't be able to avoid every surprise, they wouldn't be blind-sided by easily evaded attacks. ::

Riel: Response

:: Selene still had some concerns about her two security forces, the marines, and her security department, working together. She hoped that the ship counselor had been watching this carefully and had some insights. ::

Faranfey: Counselor, your offices have been rather busy lately, should I have any worries?

Tonston: It does seem like I have a revolving door lately but right now, there is nothing of grave concern.

Faranfey: The crew's overall state of mind?

Tonston: Captain, your crew is all with you.  If I think there will be a crew harming issue, I will let you know.

:: Before Selene could respond to the woman, her resident Andorian spoke up and the attention of those on the bridge was directed at him. ::

Tel-ar: Captain. Long range scans indicate something at the outer limits of our long range scanning ability.

Faranfey: Commander, do you have a read on what it is?

Tel-ar: Unknown at this time.

Faranfey: We are about to go to slipstream, do you think whatever this is, is an immediate danger?

Tel-ar: Guessing is impractical and illogical.

:: She sighed and took a step towards her seat again, preparing to sit down. Sometimes Tal could be a bit too inflexible. To some of the officers, he probably seemed like he was cold and distant. Sometimes she thought he was used to being alone and being shuffled all over the place, that being attached was a weakness he couldn't risk. There were times when she wondered if he every got attached to anything. ::

Faranfey: Commander, given the situation, either it's important or it's not, and you are my chief tactical officer, so we rely on your experience and judgment to tell us which it is.

:: Each officer had their own job, and she trusted them to do it, but sometimes she felt it was easier to prevent a tribble from reproducing than for her to drag information from them. ::

Tel-ar: Very well. It could be nothing or an indication that someone is following us while trying to stay out of sight.

Riel: We have some reports of ships gone missing in the vicinity. Mostly Ferengi 'independent traders'. Pirate activity isn't ruled out.

Faranfey: So, we possibly have pirates following us, that or Sentinels, or some other rogue enemy in the Gamma quadrant. Of course, it's just as possible that it might be a tentative ally. Or... or it could just be a blip on the screen.

Tonston:  After what we went thought in the last mission, I would rule for being followed, and take a deep sigh of relief when it is nothing.

:: Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best. Always a good option, many times it ended up somewhere between. Then there were the rare cases when they were side-swiped by hidden option Q. Not the species, but the completely unexpected, nearly impossible possibility that couldn't have been anticipated. ::

Anyone: reply

Tonston:  No harm for keeping alert.

:: Selene pretty much thought the same, which is why she tried giving the orders that she did. Least someone else understood. ::

Graves: Slipstream online and ready to go. Should I engage the drive?

Turner: Status confirmed, diagnostics look good.

:: Least engaging the slipstream drive would put them further away from whatever was behind them, also would likely remove them from their sight. It would be harder to follow as they closed a distance it would take most ships days to cross. ::

Faranfey: With engineering's approval, engage.

Graves: Acknowledged. Engaging the drive now.

:: As the drive engaged, the view screen showed a blue streak as they moved towards the Raytas sector. Selene took her seat and started to look over information forwarded to her from various departments. She didn't want to waste the hour, and it was important for her to stay on the bridge in case they came across trouble. ::

:: It wasn't even twenty minutes in when the HCO commanded her attention. ::

Graves: Time to destination, 34 minutes. Threshold appears good. We should be able to -

:: The ship shook, and the view screen no longer showed the blue streak, instead the stars were moving much slower. ::

Graves: Slipstream drive safeties kicked in! Warp drive.. ::she frowned:: inoperative.

:: The ship shook again, and the red lights and klaxon automatically came on, indicating the sudden danger they were in. Surprise. Enemies did whatever they could to keep the crew on their toes. ::

Graves: Ma'am, we're under attack! I can't detect energy fire. Engaging evasive patterns. Detecting one Galaxy-class equivalent, and several fighters.

Faranfey: Commander, confirm.

Tel-ar: reply

Faranfey: What's the status on our shields?

Ezi: reply

Tonston: reply

Riel: Trying... Electronic countermeasures don't work!

:: And now the Athena was faced with the situation Q that could never have been prepared for. Selene made a mental note to add this to the possibilities for the future, but for now, her crew had to focus on figuring out how to fight it. ::

:: The ship continued to be pounded with whatever these enemies had prepared them for. ::

Faranfey: Countermeasures?

Tel-Ar/Graves/Turner/Anyone: Response

Riel: :: Watching at his screen in disbelief :: oO What the ever-burning Fire is that? Oo

McKnight: The hell is that?

:: At this point, Selene bit off the sarcastic response as the ship shook again. The man was a marine which made it unlikely that he never saw an enemy before. It was likely just the first thing that came to his mind. ::

Nugra: Captain. I've got some basic analysis in. They are firing at us with what appears to be large kinetic shells. The composition is a solid Tungsten carbide center coated with a Chromium layer. The computer has recognized it as a serious threat if they get through our shields. I've forwarded what I have to our science department for confirmation and detail.

Borgia: response, if any.

Faranfey: Return fire...

Tel-ar: Response

Faranfey: We need to prevent those things from hitting us.

Nugra: Captain. Detecting two more vessels. They just appeared out of nowhere! There are also small one man fighters and what appear to be missile launches. Transferring information to Tactical.

Tel-ar: response

Faranfey: McKnight, I want you to take the other tactical station, work with Tel-ar...

McKnight: Response

Tel-ar: Response

Nugra: Direct hit on the ventral saucer section. Detecting hull integrity instability and stress fractures throughout the impact point. The shell did bounce off, though.

Faranfey: Engineering, damage report!

Ezi/Turner: Response

Faranfey: I understand, get down there and do what you have to do.

Ezi: Response

Nugra: Response

Faranfey: I'm not opposed to using all options available to us. How quickly can we have it pulled together?

:: She knew that they had fighters themselves, and could split the ship. Splitting the ship would likely give one section a better chance at survival than the other. Especially as they wouldn't be utilizing all the resources the same. ::

Nugra: Response

Faranfey: :: Tapping her comm badge. :: =/\= Captain to Holly, go to the battle bridge and prepare for separation. =/\=

Holly: =/\= Response =/\=

Faranfey: =/\= Sending McKnight, Cody, Craig, Riel and Turner to join you. =/\=

Holly: =/\= Response =/\=

:: She turned to the crew on the bridge. ::

Faranfey: You heard me. Riel, McKnight, and Turner, go to the battle bridge and prepare for separation.

Riel/McKnight/Turner: Response

Faranfey: :: Tapping her comm badge again. :: =/\= Captain to Cody and Craig, I need you two to report to the battle bridge. =/\=

Cody/Craig: =/\= Response =/\=

Faranfey: =/\= We're being attacked and are outnumbered, we're separating the ship to even the odds. =/\=

Cody/Craig: =/\= Response =/\=
