::Four weeks in Slipstream. Four weeks out of the Academy. Since his graduation and promotion to Ensign, he had spent more time travelling than actually serving at his first posting. It was one of those strange quirks of hierarchy due to extenuating circumstances that had seen he, fellow classmate and a few of his new superiors being carted across the galaxy and back to serve aboard a ship that was embroiled in the midst of a tribunal investigation. Dozens of PADDs lay strewn across the small table of his quarters, or laying scattered about in place where he happened to have wound up sitting or standing while perusing them. Some contained the operational logs of the Atlantis, so he would know the history of the fine ship he was to serve on and protect. There was one for each of the officers he was to serve under and alongside. Everyone had seen and done things he could only hope to one day experience. For better, or worse. One was a compiled list of various Bolian and other species cuisine that was on file for replicator use. During his final years of the Academy he had primarily only eaten Al-Leyan food. Most of the remaining PADDs held data on the events that led up to the Atlantis' current tribulations. Or at least those he could find and access. The bulk of their data was on the indigenous species in the region that the ship had had dealings with.::

Raga: oO It's like studying for a double major all over again. Oo

::His fingers rubbed at the bridge of his nose by his eyes as he set on PADD down on the small table and walked up to the replicator.::

Raga: Al-Leyan Spice Tea, with Terran Marshmallows. Hot.

::There was that familiar whine as the device processed the command and materialized the requested beverage to his exact specifications even producing it in a sleek cup of Al-Leyan design. Slipping a finger through the handle he scooped it up and carried it over to the chair to a lone PADD that was laying on the arm. Gingerly taking a sip from it he enjoyed the sensation as the heat of the slightly sweet libation traveled through to his stomach. To most other species it would be like drinking pure syrup, but with his dulled sense of taste it was mildly sweet.::

Raga: oO We'll be back in the Beta Quadrant. Back near home. I should send some messages. Oo

::Taking up the PADD, he reviewed the text that he had previously written. Five times. Each one was identical to the original, for the first half of the message. The second half of each was tailored to the specific recipient. Since he would be serving much closer to home than he originally thought, he wanted to let his family know. No doubt they'd be wanting to send him all manner of requests to take leave to visit soon. He'd barely seen his siblings, or his blood family in quite some time. The ones sent to his Haemachuo siblings were a bit more verbose, including his tribulations during his exam and the strangeness of the last several weeks since graduating. As did the ones sent to his mentors to show how far he'd come since his therapy. The lone missive to his blood family was a lot more concise and merely contained the knowledge that he would be serving aboard the Atlantis and in the Beta quadrant. It was all they needed to hear for now.::

Raga: oO It's been years since I visited Leya-l. Given the circumstances, I doubt I'll be able to see home for a while. Oo

::Raga's breathing became labored as he sat there reading, so he hastily concluded the messages and sent them before shakily rising to his feet and over to where his duffel bag was. Since they were nearing the Atlantis he had made sure to already pack up his things again. He quickly rummaged through the duffel as his breathing became more staccato until he located what he sought after. A hypospray and small case. Opening the case he took out one of three small vials, two of which were empty. The remaining full one he slipped into the hypospray and then pressed it to his upper arm. There was a quick hiss as the contents were injected into his bloodstream and a few seconds later he felt the tension in his chest subside. Several deep breaths later he secured the spray and case back in his bag and sealed it once more.::

Raga: It'd be good to not have to need this for even a few days.

::He commented to the empty space around him. That case and hypo had become a part of his routine for the last six years. The downside of breathing such thin air all the time. He longed for the dense atmosphere of Leya-l. And the heavier gravity. Mostly he just missed climbing the Senturat peaks.::

Raga: I'll have to visit the holodeck on Atlantis whenever I have free time. If I have free time.

::Glancing out his window he saw the familiar blur of Slipstream travel give way to the endless specks of light of stars and he knew that they were near their destination. So he quickly set about packing up the PADDs and then went to change into his uniform. Time to finally begin his first post. He grinned.::
