Mark IV: Treat the living we have here, and beam any other injured from wherever they are to here if they require urgent medical treatment. We must also begin analysis on the crew who have been affected by the Borg to determine if the process is reversible so we can figure out how to reverse it.
Listening, she gave a little nod, hearing and agreeing with the assessment
Saa: =/\= Dr. Saa to Bridge, we are ready for transport of any injured here. =/\=
Mei’Konda: =/\= Lieutenant Matthews was hit by a phaser blast set at some level hiigher than stun when the Borg crew members attacked the Bridge. He is unconsciious. I’ve used the protoplaaser, and the wound is partially closed. I will transmit the diagnostic data to you. Beam him to your locaation as soon as possible, and… my apologies, but we need him awake and back on the Bridge soon, if at all possible. Energize when ready. =/\=
Blue light began to shimmer in the bay, offsetting the rippling red light briefly before she prepped her hypospray and medical tricorder.
Saa: =/\= Energizing now, and Diagnostic Data received… I’ll try to get him up and ready as quick as possible=/\=
Reviewing the data sent from her Captain, her expression darkened a little, the location of multiple wounds on his body. Internal bleeding, through and throughs in the abdomen close to the kidney's and a shot through his thigh. Arteries in both places posed potential reasoning for the internal bleeding.
Mei’konda: =/\= And Doctor - any word from Doctor Fianna? =/\=
Saa: =/\= …No, last I heard after departing Sickbay, Dr. Fianna went to secure Engineering for the Borg.. =/\=
Mei’konda: =/\= … Understood. Keep us updaated. Mei’konda out. =/\=
She opened her mouth to say something else only to notice a small figure energize into the room, standing upright, with no apparent signs of injury. When the shimmers of blue faded, there was Zero, one half of the Bynar pair, which was the first red flag in the situation. Second red flag was the apparent black eyes and black veins coursing through the skin, her first sighting of this borg infection up close. Carefully she pulled up her medical tricorder but didn’t start the scan as if concerned that if she moved too quick the Bynar would also move.
Saa: …Zero, zero, zero…::she spoke cautiously:: Where’s One Zero One?
000: Response
oO Oh… Oo
Mark IV: One of the casualties from the Borg threat, I presume? Would you care to take the patient or shall I?
Mark IV was all too calm, which of course, he was a computer program designed to complete a task… he also was a hologram and not a fleshy being. Immediate concern for phaser fire she moved to dive behind a pillar.
oO …the Bynar biology… or neurobiology is the key.Oo
Saa: No… No, Mark, that’s Zero Zero Zero, one of the newly assimilated Borg.
She tried not to sound sarcastic or panicked as she pinned herself to the pillar, pulling out her medical tricorder as she tried to think up a plan. A scan could be indicative but technology was not her friend around Borg, especially a Borg Bynar. Due to their adaptability with technology and the capability to conduct electrical pulse they were the perfect target. What she did recall from her Xenobiology and Humanoid Physiology courses covering common Starfleet species… Bynar’s were not genetically identical at birth, they grew more identical as they aged. Bynar children were born from two sets of Bynar, thus having four genetic parents… where was the difference between Zero Zero Zero and One Zero One.
000: Response
Was it due to the recent illness one of the Bynars had suffered? No, because that didn’t explain Dr. Fianna. What was similar between Zero Zero Zero and Dr. Fianna ? Age. Yet, she was the same age as the Bynars and a year older than Dr. Fianna. Where was the commonality between One Zero One and herself, and the rest of the unaffected.
She blinked. Sevantha was born with excessive neurotransmitters leading to quicker development of her paracortex which led to a number of her development struggles with her telepathy. Could this have to do with neurobiology!? Could One Zero One’s mind be further developed than Zero Zero Zero’s?
Mark IV: If you have any theories on this manifestation of the borgification process, I will happily assist in trying to reverse its process.
Another wave of shimmering blue light appeared with Matthews laying on the ground. A hole present in his thigh was visible for her to see, but she saw seeping into the fabric at a higher point in his abdomen as well. Now Zero Zero Zero was between them and Matthews, who appeared to be bleeding profusely.
Saa: Current theory the affliction has to do with the carrier's stage of brain development… But a brain scan would be nice AFTER we stop Zero…. We need to get to Matthews.
She would have preferred to have delivered that telepathically but he was alas a program. Saying the plan out loud was naturally frustrating for the Betazoid. Wait… What if she? Could she?
oO Okay, time for your bad decision of the day, Sevan. Oo
Her eyes settled on Matthews, concern touched her features, she could barely feel him… he was slipping away. Clutching her medical tricorder tighter, she focused, listening to the whispers before focusing on the Bynar’s presence.
Zero / (Matthews, if Any): Response
Saa: Zero Zero Zero!!
Saa: ~~ZERO!!~~
000: Response
Sevantha would yell to get their attention both verbally while simultaneously yelling into their mind. Their familiarity with the Bynar was so far, strictly professional, so she didn’t quite have the emotional pull with this effort that One Zero One did or say Lt. Commander Kiax did, but she had to try. Telepathic speaking was subverting the verbal, it was an attempt to connect one another’s minds temporarily and in that effort she would try to drown out those whispers or orders. It was an uphill battle, it may not work, but she really needed to get to Matthews.
Saa: ~~Zero, focus on my voice, not those whispers, it may seem impossible but you have to fight this~~
In her own mind the whispers grew louder as she tried to reach out to Zero, the voice becoming clearer, but she attempted to protect her mind the best she could. Now was not the time to shut down.
Saa: Mark, target Zero with a Quarantine Field! I feel Matthews slipping…
Mark IV/000: Response
Saa: ~~Come on Zero we need your help in here.~~
Only combat experience she had was at the academy and Tassa’Akai dueling. One was more practical than the other, but the other, when applied, taught her to focus on her extrasensory preceptors to try and predict where her opponent would go. Borg were not difficult to predict, she didn’t require it, they had objectives and it was pretty clear what they were. What she had to predict was who they’d aim for, her or Mark IV? The one going for the patient, lingering in their head or the one trying to obstruct them with the field?
Making a quick rush across to Matthews, she went low, sliding up next to Matthews, using her own body to protect him just in case the phaser fire turned their direction. Immediately she grabbed her medical tricorder to begin scanning over the existing injuries. Captain Mei’Konda had treated Matthews with the protoplaser quickly before moving him down here, but with two through and throughs, one in the abdomen and one in the stomach, there was only so much that could be done on the bridge. Running the scanner over him, her eyes widened a little, noticing his pale color. One shot had passed through the renal artery, explaining the excessive bleeding, where the thigh through and through clipped the femoral but the Captain had managed to patch it up.
Saa: Pull up Charles Matthews file, we need a blood match and an immediate transfusion prepped—
His pulse was weakening, fading, his existence fading from her extrapercetions. Sanitization and sterilization medication for the wound was delivered through the hypospray. Scrambling for a protoplaser from her own kits, she began to work to repair the artery attached to his left kidney.
Saa: ~~Matthews, stay with us~~
Matthews: ~~Response~~ (If Any)
And then it was gone.
Saa: Matthews?! ::Her eyes widened:: No.. no no…
Lifting him was too risky, she couldn’t break the Protoplaser’s path of repair, but she checked for his pulse using the most primitive of methods and felt nothing.
Saa: ~~Don’t you dare, Matthews~~
Saa: MARK! CODE WHITE!!
Mark IV/000: Response.
Clinically, Charles Matthews was dead, but by the Four Gods she was going to try everything possible to drag him back from the beyond. She'd lost patients before. Residencies were done to gain experience in knowledge but also familiarize herself with death, but he'd been the one who said they wouldn't fail. He had to see they wouldn't, they didn't, and she really didn't want to inform the Captain that she'd been unable to save him in their time of need.
Saa: Grab the Defibrillators.
Saa: ~~Zero, we could really use your help, please!~~
