Mei’konda: I have to admit, Commander.  I’m disappointed that I did not hear this from you, first.

 

Rosek: ::gaze drops to her feet and murmurs:: Yes, sir. ::gaze lifts to meet his:: It’s a very complicated situation that I’d hoped would be kept private.

 

Lael was a strong woman.  Mei’konda had the expectation that were he to ask anyone who knew her to describe her in a few words, that would be one of the ones that came up.  Not to mention the privacy. He exhaled a slow sigh, and nodded once.

 

Mei’konda: I have no desire to pry into your personal life, Commander, but you know that these are things that could potentially affect the operation of this starship.  Is there anything else I need to know?

 

Rosek: ::pauses:: It’s complicated, sir. This is a situation where knowing too much could be hazardous for your well-being.

There were any number of Starfleet secrets that he was privy to that could be described the same way.  As a starship Captain, Mei’konda had seen his share. So had Rosek as a first officer, for that matter.  He tilted his head.

 

Mei’konda: In what way, Commander?

 

Rosek: ::grimaces:: Let’s just say my dad opened a can of worms and the Al-Leyan Council is taking it very seriously.

 

Mei’konda: Enough that they were willing to talk a member of Starfleet into aiding and abettiing.  Disturbiing, to say the least. Did Cullin plan to act against us in some waay?

 

Rosek: ::shakes her head:: Not that I know of. The Council had Cullin tracking me, obviously, but I don’t think they’re foolish enough to take on Starfleet or the Federation.

 

Clasping both hands together and leaning forward to rest his chin atop his knuckles, Mei’konda thought for a moment.

Mei’konda: Do you expect this to affect your work further aboard the Astraeus, Commander?

 

Rosek: ::pauses:: I might require an extended leave of absence sometime within the next several months to address the issue, but I can’t be sure.

 

Mei’konda inclined his head slightly toward the blonde woman sitting across from him.

Mei’konda: Very well, Commander.  We all have personal responsibiilities that come up from time to time. That's one of the thiings leave is for.

 

Rosek: ::nods:: I’ll keep you up to date, sir.

 

Mei’konda: Please do, Lael.  Dismissed.
