(( Main Bridge, Deck 1, USS Astraeus ))
Mei’konda: Helm, bring us away from the staation, full impulse, but keep our antilepton field around the Thunderchild for now... It’s time we prepaared to get out of here. Set a course to Vulcan.
Vulcan...that was a planet Gwen hadn't gotten to see. Though if she was seeing it under these circumstances...
Helm: Aye, sir… executing impulse turn. Low warp speed available on your command.
Kiax: Another incoming hail, Sir… This one’s from… ::Beat:: Sir, this one’s from the Thunderchild?
Mei’konda: Matthews, keep your weaapons trained on that ship’s engines. Kiax, on audio.
Kiax / Matthews: Responses
Herbert: =/\= … I repeat, this is Captain George Herbert of the Thunderchild to the USS Astraeus. Are you receiving me? =/\=
Mei’konda: =/\= Captain! Yes, we hear you. Whaat is your status? =/\=
Herbert: =/\= Oh, thank the Prophets you’re not Borg. ::Beat:: Look, whatever you’re doing out there is working, so don’t stop! My crew are coming out of their assimilated stupor, but the Fleet Formation Software still has control over the ship’s core functions. =/\=
Mei’konda: =/\= We’ll keep helpiing as long as we can! Herbert, if you can generate an antilepton field, it seems to interfere with the siignal. At least for now. How baadly affected was your crew? =/\=
Herbert: =/\= My first officer was the first to fall prey to whatever the Borg are doing to us. We had a lot of young’uns transfer to us recently from the Academy… My chief of security and I have been dodging their patrols for hours now. …ankly it’s a miracl … e were able to stay alive this long. =/\=
Gwen frowned as the communication line seemed to start getting garbled. Was it something on the Astraeus' end or from the Thunderchild?
Mei’konda: =/\= I understaand, Captain… perhaaps this window will be enough for you to fiigure something out. A hard reboot of your systems? You could haave the momentaarily freed members of your crew move somewhere secure, theen seaal them in by closiing bulkheads… =/\=
Herbert: =/\= I’m do… what I can to sabot… our syste…, but I’m n… willing to ris … y crew – not … … … can be sav... =/\=
Kiax: Signal is degrading Sir… I’m trying to keep him on the line, but it’s fading fast.
Herbert: =/\= Ta…get th… …cell pylo… St…p us in our --- =/\=
With a small swallow, Gwen continued to do what she could. Silently working through what she could while paying attention to the other captain. Young crew...having to hide from them and being outnumbered. At least they hadn't had that occur. What horror stories would come out of this? If they survived to tell them.
Kiax: Signal’s gone, Sir. Either the antilepton interference is hamming things up, or there are still ways the Borg are able to block communications via the Fleet Formation mode…
Mei’konda: Matthews, taarget their warp nacelles. Only enough phaaser power to disable. Prepaare to fi--
The sensors focused on the Sol Station flared angrily before showing the shields just vanishing from the onslaught of the fleet. Gwen couldn't speak up and honestly she didn't need to as the station sent out a mayday call.
Sol Station: =/\= Mayday, mayday! Shields are down! =/\=
Mei’konda: … Ensign Tasen, analysis of the Home fleet. They’re turniing. What are they doing?
The Captain broke Gwen out of her momentary frozen state as he spoke. Gwen quickly shifted the scans to the fleet that was beyond the station. As she did though Gwen paled as realization dawned. These ships' weapons were still warm from destroying the shields of the Sol Station. And now she was seeing sensor readings of where the various federation ships were aiming.
Tasen: Captain, they are...Sir, I believe they are turning their weapons on...various Earth population centers...
Kiax / Matthews: Responses
A second home to her and many...and many more their first home. Was about to be bombarded by their own. It was horrible. Terrible. Unthinkable. And their one ship couldn't do anything about it. Try and save people from a station, sure...they couldn't save a planet.
Mei’konda: … Prepaare to jump to warp. Ensign Tasen, sensors on full. Get me a locaation and status of the other Starbase 118 ships. Matthews, Kiax, traack every active vessel which could be a threaat to us. I want to know if any actiive sensors are tracking us. If it comes down to it, if Chin’toka, Narendra, the Enterprise D and the others can’t do it… our job is to save li--
Gwen's throat was tight. To hell was she going to become a mess. Not at this point...but her heart ached for those they were about to leave. The chime from another place in the bridge broke Gwen's dower thoughts as she focused on that, as she worked on doing what the captain had asked. Gather data on the other Starbase 118 ships.
Mei’konda: What haave you got, Kiax?
Kiax: Response
Gwen had done little research into the inner workings of the Borg in her academy years beyond what was required. The most hivemind creatures she knew about were more animal based and not the species-assimilating-only-able-to-take-original-ideas-from-others borg. Though, as the individual spoke...she could see where it made sense. But was it enough? Wasn't the borg an extremely adaptive group due to the amount of technology they had forcibly obtained?
Mei’konda: Ensign Tasen, join us into Chin’toka’s signaal. Let’s see if a Galaxy class sensor suiite helps augment it.
Tasen: Yes, Sir. On it...
oO If this can save the planet...please do so. Oo
Gwen thought as she worked. For a moment, Gwen froze before she softly muttered a Klingon curse phrase as she remembered something she had missed before adjusting that. If they lived through this, Gwen was going to refresh herself on the ins and outs of this ship's sensor suite for the next time she got to sit at this console. Between today and the work she had done with Commander Alentonis...
Matthews: Response
What else could happen? Could it be some fake out? A trick. Another threat that would cause today to become a more horrible version of itself?
Mei’konda: At Jupiter? Wasn’t thaat where the Enterprise was going?
Kiax / Matthews: Responses
Gwen turned her gaze to the sensors in front of her as she checked on the rest of the fleet. Had the Enterprise successfully stopped...no. She couldn't let herself hope until she knew for sure. Had the same heroes that had saved her people done the impossible today too?
Mei’konda: … What is the status of the Home Fleet? The Borg signal?
The woman was already ahead of the curve on verifying this one. So she immediately pipped up, trying to not let hope hit her too much...could this actually be over?
Tasen: Sir, the fleet is...standing down. I don't see any actively still targeting Earth cities.
Kiax / Mattews: Response
Gwen turned her chair to face the others on the bridge. Part of her was scared to hope. Scared to let herself think that they had survived this insanity. But when the captain seemed to sag for a moment, Gwen only kept her chin from shaking by clasping her mouth shut tight.
Mei’konda: Helm, laay in a course for Sol Station. If there’s a chaance of stabilizing its orbit, I want us to assist.
Helm: Aye, sir… course laid in. Engaging at full impulse.
Mei’konda: =/\= Mei’konda to all depaartments… the Borg signal has ceaased. It appears that the Enterprise D has destroyed its source. Report staatus of all infected crew members as soon as possible. =/\=
Only then did Gwen close her green eyes tight for a moment. Not ashamed as a tear seemed to streak down her probably messy face.
Mei’konda: =/\= You diid it, everyone. Second prioriity after ensuriing the safety of all souls aboard is a full daamage report. Staand down to yellow alert. Bridge out. =/\=
Gwen opened her eyes again, glad to see the lighting around them shift from the red alert. It just added onto the feeling of survival...of no longer fighting for every single moment escaping becoming space dust or borg. Gwen turned back to her monitors and got back to work. She just added the joy of it possibly being almost over add to the pile of knots in her gut. She couldn't do anything yet but continue on. They had a station to keep from falling...didn't they?
