((Corridor, Deck 10, USS Astraeus))

Wyatt walked at a good pace along the corridor.  He wasn’t sure where he was going at that point; he just needed to get away from the crowd.  He wanted to do something but he didn’t know what.  At that moment he felt totally out of control.  There were so many ships in the fleet would he even be assigned alongside at least one person he knew?  The Astraeus had become his home and the people around him were like family.

As he strode along, passing the access to the engineering section for this level, he’d been tempted to enter and see what was going on but he almost immediately changed his mind.  He’d walked past a Bolian on his way but hadn’t paid the young officer much notice.

He paused for a moment at one of the huge viewports and watched the stars streaking past as they warped their way back to Earth.  He’d come to cherish the hum of the huge engine at the heart of the Astraeus as well as the people that surrounded him and he mulled what the future would hold for him now.  He was used to moving around with his parents when he was younger, but this seemed different.

As he stood there staring out of the window he sensed the approach of a familiar mind.  The name flashed immediately into his head, Chris.  He remained staring out as he felt the other officer approach him and join him at the viewport.

Caldwell: Response

Ral I’m sorry.  I had intended to stay, it was just a bit overwhelming.  Lael has been like a rock for all of the staff and it’s going to be a big loss.  But then so is everything else that’s coming.

Caldwell Response

Wyatt turned to face the 2nd officer.

Ral: Well, I’m sure you’ve seen the orders too, as second officer.

Caldwell: Response

Ral It’s the not knowing more than anything.  If they’d said I’m being reassigned to a specific ship that would be easier, at least I would know.  And of course, this business of the ship being mothballed.

Caldwell Response

Ral Well… I… just assumed you would know.

Caldwell: Response

Ral: There was an addition to my message.  A list of protocols that need to be initiated by the time we reach Earth.  They're not standard protocols.  We’d usually only do them if we were going to decommission a ship, not just have it in dry dock for repairs.

Caldwell: Response
