((Main Sickbay, Deck 12, USS Astraeus))
((Small Time Jump to Meet with Body Snatchers))
Lt. Commander’s surgery was well underway with Dr. Doucet, Dr. Fianna had departed to the bridge where various rumors were starting to trickle to Sickbay through the word of whispered gossip, and she was in charge of Sickbay in the meantime. She’d just checked in on a few Operations and Security officers who were nursing burns from the explosion on Deck 5. Sevantha was fairly certain every dermal regenerator was being put to use today.
There was still something that lingered in the corner of her mind. Words from Lt. Ral that had stuck with her from their initial conversation telepathically, the chance of a saboteur aboard the ship and his fear of being lied to. She’d informed the Captain but they’d been pursuing the USS Titan and was sure it had been read but dismissed for the task at hand
oO …We heard the Captain’s announcement that we had found the Titan, but I don't recall any signs we ever actually engaged. Oo
It was one of those thoughts that hadn’t occurred until there was a moment of stagnation. Rushing to retrieve and care for everyone in the Operations Center, stabilizing those they could, the fact it did not appear they’d engaged at all dawned on her. What had happened?
She didn’t get too far before Lt. Ral’s voice entered her mind again, catching her off guard not just with its presence but how alarmed it was.
Ral: ~ Sevantha. There’s another me in sickbay. Get security here, now! ~
Saa: ~ Wyatt, what do you mean another you? ~
He believed everything he said, she sensed that, and his alarmed state was almost parallel to what she recalled in the Operations Center when they first spoke. Where she couldn’t lie to him, he couldn’t lie to her, and that made her stomach drop when he explained further.
Ral: ~ Sevantha. There’s literally another me about to kill me! Quickly! ~
Saa: ~ Grabbing security and on my way! ~
There were whispers back on Betazed about the year of her birth, the year the Dominion had occupied the planet. Most of the older generation didn’t talk about those stories, they grieved them publicly and privately with one another, but they didn’t inflict their grief on the younger population. But once and awhile one of her seniors would speak cryptically about what some of them saw. They never lied to the children, it wasn’t their way of life, but many worked to shield them from the pain to avoid letting it shape them so young. Some were not so lucky she had learned later on.
These stories came with rumors about neighbors appearing different, being disconnected, beings who wore the faces of others.
Rushing up to two who were sweeping the area on their orders to protect sickbay, the petite Betazoid spoke up with as much voice as she could muster verbally.
Saa: Security I need you both to head to recovery ward A immediately, something is happening.
Both of the officers would look at her for a moment, confused how she was aware of something before they were, before her lips formed a thin line.
Saa: Now! Please.
Both would take off and Sevantha would grab her PADD. Approaching another set of Security officers along her path, she’d point back to the room in which the surgery was happening with Dr. Doucet and Lt. Commander Esa Kiax.
Saa: Keep watch on that door, no one is to go in there.
She’d probably have to widen the parameters of that statement once she understood what was happening, but right now, no one was jeopardizing that surgery.
Saa: =^= Dr. Saa to Lt. Matthews, we have a security breach in the Sickbay Recovery Ward A, Lt. Ral is relaying he is in immediate danger. I’ve sent two sweeping the area to him now and will be following shortly. Lt. Ral likely has more information. =^=
Dropping her hand from her combadge she heard the sound of phasers firing, causing her eyes to widen and bringing her to sprint through the rest of the bay. Her small size luckily made it easy for her to maneuver through any traffic.
Saa: Everyone check your patients immediately and keep on task, Security has been called!
Things couldn’t break down now, not in the midst of the surgery, not when there was already so much at stake.
oO Yet it would be the perfect time for someone to strike. Oo
As she arrived, she’d see the two security guards standing looking utterly baffled and Wyatt reaching to check the pulse of a medic who’d taken a precise phase blast. Quietly she looked at the body before rushing over on the other side to confirm, the medic was dead.
Matthews: =/\= Response =/\=
Ral: =/\= Ral here: We have an intruder, Lieutenant. Whatever it was escaped into the ventilation system. =/\=
Matthews: =/\= Response =/\=
Ral: =/\= When it arrived it was Lieutenant MacNemar. Then it was me. It was fully intending to kill me. Then a blob. It could be anything now. It killed one of the medics down here. =/\=
Matthews: =/\= Response =/\=
Saa: =/\= This is very bad timing, Dr. Doucet is in the middle of a very sensitive surgery at the moment trying to save Lt. Commander Kiax, she’s left me in charge of Sickbay currently meaning neither can afford any disruptions. =/\=
Matthews: =/\= Response =/\=
Looking up to Lt. Ral she offered an apologetic glance for not arriving sooner. Her eyes drifted to the security guards who still looked stunned.
Saa: ~ Wyatt, if you were a target, it knows you know something.. ~
Ral: ~ Response ~
Saa: ~ Did Esa know too or have any suspicions? Any one of you on the team that survived could be at risk. ~
Ral: ~ Response ~
There was a bit of hesitation to speak these thoughts out loud. From what she had heard from the exchange with Matthews, the creature had gone into the ventilation systems which truly meant it could be anywhere, it could be anyone or anything. A faint hint of paranoia tugged at her mind that Wyatt would be very aware of. While these security officers weren’t the one that left, what if there were more.
Saa: ~ Could you feel anything from it? Motives? Thoughts? Was… Do you know if it was one of them? A changeling? ~
Ral: ~ Response ~
