Shivara had just finished a grueling shift in sickbay and was looking forward to some relaxation. She wanted to go somewhere and meet new people, but she wasn’t quite sure where to go. The ship was so huge and the places people congregated were so many that the task was almost daunting. And so, she had taken to strolling about the ship.
She was about to turn to the next turbolift when she almost bumped into a Caitian. He seemed fairly young, still an Ensign like herself and she smiled. Meeting Caitians in Starfleet was always a highlight for her. Meeting the legendary Captain Mei’konda was especially great. But she hadn’t really been aware there were any other Caitians on the ship.
Shivara: Oh, hello. I’m sorry, I diidn’t see you there.
S’Rorr: Oh, my fault! I wasn't watching where I was going.
She smiled at him and extended a hand.
Shivara: Shiivaaraa. I’m a doctor here. :: beat :: Well, intern really. But I’ll be gettiing my full liicense soon. At least, I hope so. If I paassed my fiinaal testiing.
She started to blush and tucked her tail as she realized she was babbling.
S’Rorr: Shivara! It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Dr. S'Rorr, counselor. I hope you pass your test, I remember it was absolutely no joke when I took it. I clocked 4 hours on only part 1.
Shivara: Oh, you got riid of the accent. Thaat’s good. Some people haave trouble understaanding me sometiimes.
S’Rorr: Oh, yes.. I did some speech therapy. I thought it might make me seem more relatable to patients.. but sometimes I think I shouldn't have bothered. The Caitian tongue is so distinctive. Anyway, my accent absolutely comes back when I've had a few!
Shivara: A few whaat? :: She paused for a second then realized what he was talking about. :: Ooohh! Riight. Yes.
She spotted the tennis racket in his hand and hoped to change the subject before she became any more awkward and he started wondering if she’d “had a few.”
Shivara: So, you aare going to plaay some kiind of gaame?
S'Rorr: Yes! I was just heading to play some tennis. You should join me sometime! The holo-players aren't as fun a real rival.
Shivara: Oh, I haave never plaayed before. You would probaably make me look siilly.
oO Like you don’t already? Just like a silly schoolgirl. Oo
S'Rorr: Oh, no, no, I'm terrible at it. I just play to stay in shape. What's your go-to exercise? Don't tell me, the climbing wall? I get vertigo just thinking about that thing!
She felt like he must play a lot of tennis if that was the case, in which case, she couldn’t understand why he would think he was terrible at it.
She had gotten lost in her musings and finally realized he had asked her a question. She quickly brought herself back and looked at him.
Shivara: Hm? Cliimbiing? Oh. No, I liike to run. I prefer to spriint, but long-distance giive a better workout, so my laast haalf miile is usually at a full spriint.
S'Rorr: Well.. If you're not doing anything for the next hour.. Would you want to give it a try?
Me play tennis with him? Well, why not. It might be fun.
Shivara: Sure, let me just get iinto some exerciise clothes aand I will meet you there.
S’Rorr: Response
(( timeskip, Holodeck ))
She’d replicated an authentic tennis outfit for women, complete with the skirt and all. The tennis shoes were a bit uncomfortable, and she’d made note to have the replicator make adjustments to her shoe sizes in the future. She rounded the corner and approached the holodeck, entering and looking for S’Rorr. There was already a full sized tennis court and he was already present. She knew the basic rules of the game, having watched it a few times on Earth, but she’d never played before.
oO Honestly, how hard can it be? And just remember, given how much time he apparently puts into this exercise, he’s very good at it, so don’t take it personally if you lose. Oo
Shivara: S’Rorr, I finaally maade iit.
S’Rorr: Response
Shivara: Yes, I deciided thaat if I was going to do thiis, I should maake iit aas authentiic as I caan.
